UAM Posted October 1, 2005 Report Posted October 1, 2005 2,319 on Lee Jackson Field see home team romp visitors from the South. Thanks to all who came and were a part of the fun... next up - Penn State, Monday night, 7:30 p.m., LJF Quote
Zips fan Posted October 1, 2005 Report Posted October 1, 2005 WOW-that game was fun last night!! It was impressive to see the size crowd that showed up. It was difficult to find a place to sit and was definitely SRO but the start of the game. Great job Zips!! Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted October 1, 2005 Report Posted October 1, 2005 WOW-that game was fun last night!! It was impressive to see the size crowd that showed up. It was difficult to find a place to sit and was definitely SRO but the start of the game. Great job Zips!! I agree. A lot of fun on a beautiful night. AND, we beat OSU. Students rushed the field after the game...packed house...great environment. Gimme my on-campus football stadium NOW! BTW: Say the Zips soccer program continues its level of excellence. What percentage of a 30,000 seat stadium could it fill for an on-campus big time game? I bet 12k isn't out of the realm of possibility. Quote
Z.I.P. Posted October 2, 2005 Report Posted October 2, 2005 BTW: Say the Zips soccer program continues its level of excellence. What percentage of a 30,000 seat stadium could it fill for an on-campus big time game? I bet 12k isn't out of the realm of possibility. Consistency is more important than the occasional big crowd. I was almost shocked to read last year that the team was drawing worse than it did back in the 1970s even (averaging only a few hundred). I hope the team's play will carry over, not just for the rest of this year, but for the future as well. As more people are introduced to the NCAA level of soccer, they will inevitably be drawn to return over and over, as I was thirty years ago. Which is another reason why it's important to make the next football/futbal facility on campus versatile -- with enough space to fit an international-size pitch, and a great real grass field. None of that Spartan Stadium stuff (e.g., San Jose Earthquakes home), please! Keep up the hard work Zipitistas! Quote
Sloopy Posted October 2, 2005 Report Posted October 2, 2005 With the crowds the football team is drawing maybe the school should build a soccer stadium that the football team can play in. When soccer is drawing 25% of your football total crowd you should be very worried. Does not sound like there is much interest in Akron football from the public. Quote
Zipsrifle Posted October 3, 2005 Report Posted October 3, 2005 What constitutes a blowout in soccer? Man I wish I lived closer to Akron! Quote
