vmd9
I wish they would have put shops on the first floor like they did with the exhange dorms. I just noticed the UA at the top (near the main entrance) great touch!
Z.I.P.
I wish they would have put shops on the first floor like they did with the exhange dorms. I just noticed the UA at the top (near the main entrance) great touch! I can't help noticing in all the recent buildings on campus the increasing degree of glass. How does this square with energy efficiency? Are any of the new buildings LEED certified?
vmd9
I'm not sure if that makes any difference when it comes to energy efficiency. But UA has outlawed the use air conditioning across campus for some reason. So that should be saving them tons of money.

That's typical because of how the heating works, if they switch it off it takes a long time to get the steam heat back up and running. I just noticed the UA at the top (near the main entrance) great touch! I think it's because of the placement. I think when the dorms get built on Exchange, they will likely have some shops at street level.

I mean what your saying may be true but I'm kinda tired of only 3 hours of sleep at night in the dorm because of the heat, I'm getting a bit irritated haha
RootforRoo44
The AC should have came on today actually. Word is they schedule two times a year to turn on all heat and then all AC. April 15th was one of those days.
bUAkronG
The AC should have came on today actually. Word is they schedule two times a year to turn on all heat and then all AC. April 15th was one of those days. as per zipmail last friday(April 9), We all enjoyed the warm temperatures earlier in the week, except for the fact that it seemed even warmer indoors on campus. If you have been wondering why UA can’t simply flip the switch and let the magic of modern air conditioning cool our brows, here’s the short answer… UA uses a steam and chilled-water system to manage indoor temperatures in most campus buildings. It’s a cost-effective way to heat and cool a lot of buildings in close proximity. When the shift from heating to cooling occurs on April 15 of every year, it takes the system about a week to adjust. So why not make the switch already? There’s a risk in shifting to air conditioning too soon, says Joe Gregor, who oversees campus maintenance. If a severe cold snap occurs after the switch, UA risks losing all the individual cooling coils in the buildings. The cost would be in the millions. So Gregor and his team play the averages, choosing April 15 as the day to switch to cool air, and Oct. 15 to switch to heat, if the weather permits. tpsjugglerdude
Correction on that...April 15th is not the day that AC comes back on as some rumors stated. It is the day that UA LOOKS at turning it back on. They determine if it will get colder again and if there is a chance it will, they leave the heat on.
