Zip_ME87 Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 Stories of African (and English, and American) Soccer: Steve Zakuani and the Congo From England to America ..."When I asked him about going to school at Akron, Zakuani lit up: “Ah, I loved it. Just loved it….obviously I took the Gen Ed classes but I also took classes on the black experience, Africans, Americans, government, and it opened up my mind. As much as I loved training at Akron, I loved my classes just as much. I loved it… the teachers make you think. You don’t agree with everything, but you learn about everything. That was awesome.”.... Z.I.P. Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 He's noticed in Seattle too. See that Sigi went to a 4-3-3 lineup to get Stevie closer to the net vs Columbus. And hey -- check out the new 'do. The Reverse 'Z'. Must be for Zips, eh? http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/soun...sounders05.html Quote
Valpo Zip Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 You gotta see this goal by Blair Gavin (The rookie from Akron). http://mls.neulion.com/mlsvp/console.jsp?c...822&id=4863 Quote

Blair Gavin scores first MLS goal I sure hope the weather in Columbus is good next Saturday (May 15th). I have my ticket to see Blair and Ben. Quote

The Crew announcers were pretty ignorant, not once mentioning (at least not that I heard) that Steve played for Akron, even when he scored. Quote
Z.I.P. Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 Yeah, I watched much of that game on the Ohio News Network (ONN). The Crew announcers were pretty ignorant, not once mentioning (at least not that I heard) that Steve played for Akron, even when he scored. Well, after watching the Sounders being taken apart time time and again by the Galaxy on Saturday (a 4-nil thrashing -- only the second time SSFC has given up more than one home goal), and seemingly setting a MLS record for offsides calls (less than half of which were result of Galaxy traps) you can rest assured of one thing -- the experiment is over. Sounders must find another way of working scoring opportunities than sending the ball from back to goal over and over. Sigi & Co. had the same problem a year ago of finding a way to connect from midfield to the penalty area and the team was far too reliant on individual play to become the title threat they never really became. When they get their big target forward back from injury things should sort themselves out, but no 20 y.o. a year out of American college can do what was hoped for to this point. Now how about those Goats? Quote
Zip_ME87 Posted May 10, 2010 Author Report Posted May 10, 2010 Now how about those Goats? Lookin' good 'til they ran into the Dynamo. Hopefully, they'll have a better game in Columbus Saturday. I'm hoping the weather will be good for Blair's and Ben's return to Ohio. The last few weekends have been pretty crappy. I'll be there regardless. Anyone else planning to see Chivas USA in Columbus this Saturday? Quote

Zip_ME87 Posted May 13, 2010 Author Report Posted May 13, 2010 Not sure if anyone caught this story or not..... apologies if it's a double post http://www.cnbc.com/id/37063718/ Thanks. I hadn't seen that story, but I did see Zakuani's comment on his twitter page apologizing to the fans and that they should have their money refunded. Perhaps someone should forward that story to Dan Gilbert. Quote
mes102 Posted May 13, 2010 Report Posted May 13, 2010 IS the game this saturday in Columbus sold out? Quote
Z.I.P. Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 IS the game this saturday in Columbus sold out? They haven't sold out a game in Columbus since the joint opened -- except USA vs Mexico. Don't worry about finding good seats. Most games they draw around 10k. 15 is a very good attendance figure (for them!). It seats 19k I believe. Let's get a good crowd of Zips. I would expect many from the UA team. You might even call the soccer office and see if you can get a deal -- or better yet even, contact that guy 72Zip. It's right in his backyard. Where is he, anyway? BTW -- re: Zak's refund idea. Let's hope the Cleveland Indians and Browns fans don't find out. Those clubs could go bankrupt giving back for their performances. Quote

Those clubs could go bankrupt giving back for their performances. I suspect the Indians and Browns sell their tickets with a warning in the small print, such as..."Buy at your OWN Risk. Ownership not responsible for the level of performance, or lack thereof." Quote
