Z.I.P.
RIP, Dr. G. Didn't realize he was a pro. musician and graduate of U@Buffalo. Nice to have the service on campus at Guzzetta Hall. He was still pres. when I started @ UA. He helped put Fredonia New York on the map! I remember listening to him talk in a World Civ (is that what we called those perfectly horrible required classes?) lecture in Thomas Hall he was visiting, about his hometown. Seems the entire village in Italy up and moved to upstate New York after WWI. Doctor G did more to boost the University than anyone since John Buchtel. Thanks for EJ Thomas Hall itself. I'll listen again tonight to my Joe Pass album recorded there in the 80s, and remember him.
Jake
probably one of the worst presidents of UA next to Peggy Elliot (very paternalistic and condescending to students). The man would attack students who respectfully disagreed with him by shaking his finger in their faces and would question their commitment to their cause with stupid clichés' like, "what's your angle in all of this?" And when students responded that their angle was their love for UA, he'd look them in the face and call them liars. He was mean, stupid and kept UA in the dark ages. The only students he liked were those who went to his palatial home funded by UA and drank his wine and pabulum. This man was loved by many including me, yet he was the worst thing that ever happened to The University of Akron. Countless administrators at UA at the time would complain to me about his narrow, micro-managing driving them crazy. He would send his vice presidents out on the lawn of Buchtel Hall to stop a male and female student from kissing on a blanket. He was also known for stopping male students on their way to class ordering them to cut their hair because in his narrow opinion, it was too long. Yet, he gained the admiration of the chumps of the student body because they were invited to his house for wine and snacks. Nonetheless, may you rest in peace Dom. You were certainly a hard worker and you had your heart in the right place. If you ever want to blame someone for the faults of the Rhodes Gym (arena) you can blame Guzzetta. In contrast, he and his predeceased wife, Nola advanced the cause of arts at UA.

Jake
A sad day for UA Blow it out your ass. I'm sorry that Dom died, but he lived a good long life and he was an albatrose around the neck of The University of Akron. Now, let us stop being the drama queen! Dom was a guy that I disagreed with strongly as he ran the university. I have a nice note From him telling me off (after I tolkd him he was blowing it with the drawing for the JAR. I think you have to separate the man from the president. The man was a good person whose company I enjoyed. The president was not up to the task and it became apparent the board of trustees had to get him out of there. While the JAR is an example of a failure of leadership and not listening to others, I'm content to remember him as a guy who tried his best. He loved Akron. I'll leave it at that.
