ZachTheZip
OU's faculty campaign against athletics. The faculty at OU have a majority on every committee. They control everything. At UA, the administration administrates, while the faculty teach and do research. At OU, the faculty can exert control over the administration. And they're ready to take a huge bite out of the athletics department, possibly 15% of the budget, possibly dropping 1-A football.
GP1
This will not happen at UofA. The investment alone in athletics alone in the past 10 years would stop it. You don't build a new football stadium and then let it sit empty. One thing they could say and it is true, if the Athletic Department loses money, they should cut their budget somehow until it is within reason to the income. Kangaroo Craig
Most folks involved in acedemia are radical leftists who have never held a job in the private sector and are clueless at running a business. If they get control of the purse strings associated with college athletics, the internal costs to operate athletics will go up (More inefficient bureaucracy), but the revenues coming in will not. This will lead to cuts, which in turn, will lead to a poor product on the field. Eventually athletics can no longer sustain itself and will need to be dropped. I pray this never happens at UA. Couldn't have been said better. It's amazing that this lady claims that Athletics and Academics have "no connection" whatsoever. Very close minded to think that Athletics don't play a role in Academics and the overall betterment of the University. I have 3 former/current Marching 110 members in my house right now and they aren't surprised by this. It seems the President of the University isn't too keen on Athletics to begin with and the overall attitude of facility there is that sports are a distraction at college. The infiltration of these progressive nuts is going to cause a lot of damage at OU. That brings up another question: If football is dropped entirely (which most likely wont be the case) would that kill the Marching Band and in turn kill their very good music program as well? Even if football drops down to 1AA (or whatever it's called) I would think that would damage the Marching 110's credibility as well. Things like that seem to go right over the head of those kind of people.
