Zip_ME87 Posted July 22, 2010 Report Posted July 22, 2010 Sorry if this has been posted previously, but two additions to the Men's roster, from Kingston Jamaica, are up on GoZips. 2010 Men's Soccer Roster #11 Darren Mattocks #19 McKauly Tulloch Welcome to Akron! zip37 Posted July 22, 2010 Report Posted July 22, 2010 They are extremely fast, from what I hear. Quote
Z.I.P. Posted July 22, 2010 Report Posted July 22, 2010 They are extremely fast, from what I hear. I have heard that Usain Bolt might be interested in picking up a new sport after the London games. Do you think his countrymen can convince him to start kicking a ball around? ("Bob played") The new guys add something we have little of, which is size. At six foot and six-one they increase our six foot and over ranks by 66.6%. Not including the keepers. Quote

Not including the keepers. Last year's Zips squad proved that height doesn't really matter. I doubt this is the case with Akron getting these two, but most colleges will often choose to go after players who are big-bodied and play physical kick-the-ball-forward american style soccer instead of shorter ones who know how to play the beautiful game. I don't think that's what Akron is doing here, as I said. I just don't see the need for taller players in soccer outside the keeper position. Quote

I don't know...taller strikers may be helpful scoring head shots off of corner kicks. Quote

But i hear from one of the seniors that these players Have Steveo potential. It's amazing. Kids with "Steve Zakuani" levels of talent are often taken for granted in their own countries, but could become professional stars here. They don't realize it because nobody tells them that they can come here and continue both their education and soccer careers for a few more years and have a good shot at playing professionally. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 EDIT One Mattocks article from Nov 2009 According to that, they're the top two scoring youth players in all Jamaica. Quote
