Good Year Or Frustrating?

I've had a few days to calm down after a dismal loss to BSU...

Current outlook:

Guys, the Zips are 4-5 with 2 to go.. if the air isn't completely gone out of the balloon, these are both winnable home games vs Ohio and Can't. Looking back at the schedule, I think we all would agree, this is where we thought we'd be right now. Nobody figured NIU or BG for wins. CMU has turned out be for real. BSU and Army make up for BG and NIU... so 4-5 is about right.

If the Zips can win two, they finish 6-5 and 5-3. Same as last season. My opinion is that would be a successful year considering where we all thought we'd be. I am still very disappointed that we didn't take advantage of the NIU and BG wins by losing to BSU, but overall, we would have maintained.

If they drop one, to Ohio, then still a decent year at 5-6, 4-4.

Drop both .. then you are 4-7 and have losses to BSU and Can't State plus a squeaker at Buffalo. Not such a great season.

I'm curious where you see it now?

If we win the final 2, it is a decent year. It is frustrating...many opportunities lost...but I can deal with it.

If we lose at home to OU it is crippling. Season turns to crap.

If we lost to Can't at home this season I'm cancelling my season tickets. There is no excuse to lose to these clowns. They're the worst team in Division 1-A and our rival. I can't see a loss to K-ent happening. They are sooooo Goddamn bad.

:screwks:

I prefer Goodyear tires over just about anything else....Is Frustrating a new type of Chinese tire??? ;)

I think I predicted 5-6. What gets me so pissed is that we don't show up for every game. JD had these guys so well prepared early in the season, now, who knows what we're going to get. We have about a snowballs chance in hell at winning the MAC East right now. TWICE this year I had high hopes that we were back in it only to have the team show up for only about 40% of the following games. It's been a rollercoaster ride, I expected to start off slow and end strong. We started off strong and have been sputtering. That's not improvement guys, it's leveling off. Does this mean we'll be sputtering next year too? Nobody outside of Biggs and Rohr are stepping up and we're stuck with Getsy for another year. In the end, I guess I'm most pissed that the momentum we had built through last season is gone. I doubt we'll have the #1 recruiting class again and I don't see many exciting players returning next year. We seemed poised to become the next upper eschelon MAC team, but have blown that opportunity and now sit here with about 8 other MAC teams in this Gigantic MESS! CMU's got a great coach and so does OU. At the beginning of the season we had the upper hand on these schools, but now they've leapfrogged us. :wall:

Oh, and I'm not going to even talk about the MACC until I've got a house full of Zips fans and a fist full of tickets here in Michigan the night before the game. We've got 2 games left and we'd better worry about those first before we're thinking MACC. :mad_flame:

I hate the argument I predicted 5 wins and that looks pretty close. We didn't expect to beat BG and NIU those were extras so we ended up where I thought they took care of the Army and BSU losses.

NO NO NO that isn't how you are supposed to think -- we beat BGSU and NIU and that was supposed to make them two games better than you thought. It's not a wash when you beat teams you should lose to and lose to teams you should beat!

The fact that more people aren't pissed off about the BSU loss amazes me. The inch line and you have four plays to QB sneak it in the end zone and you go backwards five yards to go forward inches? Someone needs to ask Brookhart what the hell they were thinking -- that is by far more boneheaded than anything I've seen in years.

I mentioned Winters in another thread and was bashed -- Winters was twice the offensive coordinator Brookhart or whoever is calling the plays and I lobbied for Owens to be fired for years.

Winters was good...until the game was on the line. How many games did we lose simply because we couldn't get a first down to run out the clock? Many. Punt...opponent drives down the field against our crappy defense...we lose the game.

Do you really miss those 3rd-and-8 delayed draws out of the shotgun formation?

People forget too soon that, while we has some great offensive players under Winters/Owens...late in the 4th quarter the offense predictably went south.

Owens was fired for a reason. In general, he recruited mediocre players...recruiting well with his first 12 scholarships and failing miserably with his last 13. His player rentention the last several years was horrible. JD, in only his second season, is saddled with that legacy.

Every year we should expect more from this staff. They've already made more positive strides on defense than Owens did in 9 years. I'm sure offense is next on the priority list. I'm expecting an equal improvement on offense in 2006 as we saw on defense in 2005.

I'm down on the team's offensive execution this year more than I am the playcalling.
