UAZip0510
What an embarrassment... I hope to God they drop ticket prices for the remaining home games, or else it's going to be like Municipal Stadium in the 80's
Dave in Green
I have to say I'm glad that I was unable to attend this game in person. Following it on an internet scoreboard was painful enough. The one word I just can't get out of my head is "pathetic."

MDZip
Outstanding - welcome to 0-4 with a legitimate shot at 0-12. On the bright side we might be #1 (on the ESPN Bottom 10 list). I hate when "wait til next year" comes this early.
Dave in Green
..... Side bar: I wouldn't care if ICoach treated this whole season like an NFL pre-season if it meant developing a quality team for years to come Just my Opinion ..... After this game, I'm with you 100%. I don't think that "the future is now" is much of an option with this team.

zipsfan13
Well that was the most pathetic game I have ever witnessed. I wasn't able to attend the Syracuse game, so my expectations were pretty low after reading the comments on this board. I didn't think it was possible, but they did not even come close to meeting my low expectations. Is there anyone on the team that can come close to covering a WR? How many times were they wide open today? When they got the ball with a few minutes left in the game in their own territory, I leaned over to my friend and said, "If this is the Akron team that I know, they will definitely turn it over on this drive." Guess what? Yep, they turned it over. Also, when they were attempting the game winning FG I leaned over to him again and told him that he would miss it. It's really pathetic that I was able to predict with confidence that those things would happen. Before this game, I was in favor of giving Ianello a chance, but after today, I'm not so sure. RootforRoo44
on another note, did anyone else notice how BAD the officiating was today? I have video of a good amount of the game and some of the plays they reviewed and got wrong are unbelievable. Not to mention some of spots and other calls. Just terrible. ZachTheZip
We played a zone D the entire game. Not once did I see man-to-man coverage. So of course the GW coaches figured out that all you have to do is put a player at the seam and throw to him and it's an instant first down. They figured it out in the first quarter and we did nothing to adjust. It's why every one of their completions was to a wide-open receiver. MDZip
At least we didn't have the worst loss to an FCS team today. Virginia Tech fell to James Madison 21-16.

That pretty much kills Boise State's national championship aspirations, as their signature win over Virginia Tech turns out to be not so special. zipseuph
I can't stand this. I'm tired of seeing a bunch of OSU gear at Akron sporting events. I'm tired of Bars around here catering to everyone except UA. I'm tired of UA being looked at as a joke. I'm tired of there being more OSU fans in this area than Akron fans. I have been bragging about UofA (I've even called in to all bets are off and talked up UA) and now they come out and give me this? they let a DII school ( I don't care what it's actually called they're DII) welk into our house (that cost a lot of money to build) and embarrass us. I'm sorry but I've given Icoach the benefit of the doubt, and he has let me down. I'll start going to games again when they can field a team that isn't a complete emarrasment. I'm not even talking competing for anything. just not embarrasing.
Quickzips
No excuse losing to an FCS team like that. Two games in and Ianello has alienated the fan base with his behavior, been utterly un-prepared for the season opener, botched the simplest play of the game (the coin-flip) and handed the Zips probably their most embarassing loss in program history. Nothing about this team leads me to the conclusion that we are in store for anything other than pure missery for the foreseeable future. I haven't been following the football team too much lately as it is, but I am at the point where I think it's time to completely ignore it. Keep tabs on the soccer team and the basketball team where you can at least see an entertaining product that can win some games. Someone make sure to PM me if we ever find a coach who has any idea what he is doing.
zipsbandman
So this is what rock bottom looks like. Ianello should be fired and so should his AD.....way to hire a bunch of losers UA
GJGood
Should Akron ever have lost this game? No, not at all. This was, however, a team playing their second game in new offensive and defensive schemes going against a team that had a good deal of experience in theirs. Its not a miracle by any means for G-W that they won. Akron has more talent but they are not nearly as good at the teamwork end of things and the schematics of what they are trying to do. Teams take a step back frequently when there is a head coaching and coaching staff change. They almost always take a significant step back when that change also includes a fairly radical change in schemes. Unfortunately for the Zips this significant step back is one going back from a 3-9 season last year. The upside is that this team will get better. They will be considerably better by season's end which may not be saying much. I do believe, however, that when the 2011 season rolls around this team will be much improved. That is something that plays out frequently in college football, we are just starting at a lower plateau (or valley I guess I should say). K92
First Question: How can you be a captain of a FBS football team and not know coin toss protocol? You either want the ball or defer to second half. Hello? I will bet half of the kids from the visiting high school marching bands know that. Unbelievable. Second Question: If Jalil Carter is not even going to be on the field as WR, why is he not playing DB instead? He was able to play, obviously. He returned kickoffs all day. I may be incredibly stupid and need someone much smarter than I to splain this to me. You convert the best returning DB you have to WR so he can watch from the sidelines as the Wide Recievers struggle to get open and the Defensive Backs struggle to cover anybody? Huh?
