skip-zip
It used to be that games between FBS (1-A) teams and FCS (1-AA) teams were "off the board" in terms of betting. I have noticed this year that some of these contests now have published point spreads. This USA Today page lists two establishments that have UA as an 11 point favorite over G-W. This seems a little low to me, but who really knows. Edit: Looking a little closer, it seems it's only the 5Dimes site that consistently provides a spread for FBS vs. FCS games. 11 points? At home? Against probably an average I-AA team? Even though many of us are not guessing that we will win by a huge margin, I would still expect college football prognosticators to give us a lot more respect than this. wags076
We still have talent lights years ahead of a nobody like Gardner Webb. This game will be a beatdown. Never underestimate the smaller schools. There are plenty of great players out there that are not scouted well coming out of high school but still want to play and plenty of schools like Gardner Webb that pick them up. There is less disparity in talent today and players get overlooked by the bigger schools. Take for instance the force known as Brian Wagner who came from the tiniest DIV 6 school in Ohio. Or Pierre Garçon who went to Mount Union and is now playing for the Indianapolis Colts.
RACER
this game is a must win for akron. this game is more for the players than the fans.they need a win in the worst way. if we do lose this game the reality is 0-4 going into the niu game. i doubt if it will matter to the home attendance, but we should never lose to 1-aa team. if we win then at least we have some confidence going into the two road games. then playing two bcs teams will get us ready for mac play.losing will pretty much means the season is over for the attendance, and we will have about 10k for each home game.the mac season is just starting but i just don't see an 0-4 team winning many mac games. ditchrider1
I will predict that I will not be in attendance but the Zips will prevail 27-7. I know as everyone has mentioned comparably to other programs, $25 per ticket is a good deal but I cannot bring myself to spending almost $80(2 tix, parking and solar calculator totaled concessions) to see Akron vs Gardner Webb. I will be listening at home watching more entertaining games, saving my money to invest in a better product that has a higher R.O.I I will always be a Zips fan but I have to begin being smarter with my finances and can't bring myself to keep throwing money at something that just upsets me for 3-4 hours a weekend and isn't worth the price I am paying...bad management, bad product. I will pay $18-20 tonight for two tickets and concessions to go see Falls vs North with my daughter which will also be a struggle of futility, but will be much more entertaining and have a better atmosphere...IMO. Love the Zips and have spent bundles in the past following them around the Midwest but over the past two years I have grown tired of regretting my purchase every Sunday when I sit down to pay my bills online. God bless the coaches and student athletes giving their all each week. Blast away Zips Nation...I can take it.

suitanim
If the regents want to make some money and attract some more fans, why not sell beer at the game? They did at the Rubber Bowl. Can't State sells beer. Beer sales are a huge revenue stream, very profitable... I don't mind the University charging a premium for bigger games, and I know why they do it (those bigger games come with traveling opponents fans who all pay the premium), but the goal needs to be on improving the game-watching experience. I know I'd enjoy gameday more, especially on a warm day, if I could have a few beers.

And to say that two of the most abysmal high school teams in the county are "more entertaining" to watch, I mean I guess I can't argue some people do prefer comedies. I should have been a bit more specific....I find the whole environment more entertaining...the fans, the students etc, bands etc. I guess I just miss being that age and like to get back to those days a bit more, plus my daughter can hang in the area with her friends and she has alot of fun. The football I agree is bad(sometimes very bad) but these kids havn't been pulled to these schools for their athletic abilities like in college. They are playing because they love to play and there seems to be alot of that lost in the jump from high school to college and more so in the pro game. Nothing is better than seeing the wide variety of kids who make up a high school football team, the really tall kid who should catch every pass because he towers over his defender, the really big kid who has a different uniform because it had to be specially made. So I guess in a way you are right g-mann..there is a bit of comedy in it but I know I need a bit every now and again Overall it comes down to I am just tired of throwing money at something "just because I am a fan" It's just not fun(for me) anymore to go to Zips games...Infocision has no character...the team stinks and the University continues to drop the ball on everything from parking to pricing to the gameday experience...their comedy is no longer funny it's just sad and I have a good idea of the ending. skip-zip
My problem with the "premium game" pricing is that it's going to create some confusion among the more casual fans. If you are not one of the more informed fans, you are going to come to a game like Syracuse, and assume that this is the normal ticket price. Maybe you should try something else and see if you miss going to the game. You might be having fun and not realize it. that's what I thought. Honestly, it was kind of wearing on me the last year at the Rubber Bowl when they started be hard-azzes about where you could sit and then I had a renewed sense of enthusiasm with the Info but honestly I have been very dissapointed with the whole thing. Maybe I had delusions that the new stadium was going to fix everything(guess I could be an AD!) and now seeing that it takes alot more than that to make a good program is finally sinking in. We were so close a few years ago to turning the corner....ESPN games at the RB, the tailgating field, beer gardens, Championship games, Bowl games. Walking in last week to see the half-full stadium was a big blow and that place is just boring and sterile to me. I know me not showing up does not help the situation but I just have a hard time giving my hard earned money to an establishment that has almost seemed to go out of their way to make the program not successful. Maybe they thought all they had to do was "build it and they will come" but that is obvioulsy not the case. I will be back, I just think I am going to be selective about the games I attend and take this week off to see if I miss it...per your suggestion. What Dr. Z said, and that you have such a "everything is wrong and nothing is right" outlook with the football program. Jacquemain & JD let us down last year. My hopes for this year was to see a team be competative, I still believe this team can be. But I'm also the kind of person who feels that there are no constants and that change is inevitable. The stadium is anything but "sterile" it has plenty of character. The problem is you haven't developed any memories in the stadium. That is what adds character to a stadium. There hasn't been anything important (other than opening it) that has happened. Give it time to let the team and surroundings connect with you. Memorable games will happen here. (and as far as support, they have done miles of work and put detail into things, media blitzes are expensive and the budget this year was cleaning up pregame and getting ready to go with STO)

Especially if they put them in front of us. And throw in a couple of those trough-style urinals, a couple of stalls without doors, and a bunch of peeling white paint, and we would have really brought some nostalgia to the new place. NotBrianWagner
OVERVIEW Zips will bounce back this week after Zippy the mascot tantalized the team with an exotic Australian strip dance promising to show the team "the trick with her pouch" if they beat GW by 30. GW will walk away from this game with crippling depression. WHAT TO LOOK FOR Late in the 2nd Quarter: Coach Ianello channeling the spirit of Akron Coaches Past and finally believing in himself. Halftime: 2 Drunk College kids making out by the team shop. THE Z FACTOR Brian Wagner will have an impressive defensive game. His final stats will be 15 Tackles, and two interceptions turned into charity efforts for religious tolerance.
