Z.I.P.
This news just in, posted at Top Drawer Soccer:DeAndre Yedlin, US U17 Team is the newest member of Caleb's recruiting class for 2011. Notice how Akron is becoming a national power with recruiting heading further West all the time. More info after I get in touch with my Seattle contacts. But -- you think he's met his fellow Sounder, #11? No doubt.

72 Roo
Z.I.P. Thanks for the news. This is a guy who will be heir apparent to Ampai. Caleb continues to keep us on top. Look for news of another stadium expansion to come next summer. Supposely private funding to expand the granstand has been pledged. When that happens look for us to draw croeds over 6,000. Take care. Hope the islands are treating you well and you are another year closer to retiring to Portland.

If I buy a full length raincoat it's a sign that I'm either a pervert, or I'm moving to the Pac NW.
jem101
This thread over at Big Soccer about the top coaches in NCAA soccer may have had something to do with his decision. Looks like his grandfather was paying attention to the debate. Porter is the man!
TheTank123
Just wanted to stop by and say hi. I am a member of DeAndre's family. He is incredibly excited to be joining a program that has so many loyal fans. One thing though: he will be taking over for Kofie, not Ampai :-)

Z.I.P.
Just wanted to stop by and say hi. I am a member of DeAndre's family. He is incredibly excited to be joining a program that has so many loyal fans. One thing though: he will be taking over for Kofie, not Ampai :-) Tank, Good to have the Yedlin ohana ("family" to the non-Hawaiian reader) aboard the SS Akron Express. I haven't found a lot of info about young DeAndre, but apparently he has played on several occasions with fellow 2011 recruit Will Trapp of Columbus Crew Academy. Do the boys have a bet on tonight's US Open Cup Final between their clubs? I also noticed that DeAndre was a grappler at O'Day HS. In fact he was in the 104 pound class at the 2008 Washington regional championships. I hope he's put on a bit of weight, if he wants to compete in the rough and tumble of NCAA soccer. His wrestling background may come in handy however, when the boys from Columbus (meaning not the Crew, but rhyming, OSWho) take the pitch along with the Zips. What spot in the back line does DeAndre line up at? Has he any experience at the MF? Best wishes to DA. Hope Caleb schedules a trip home for him the next four years. I'll be there. Funny you should ask. Before the Sounders he played for Crossfire Premier as a right wing. He went to the U-18 National Camp in Carson, CA over the holidays and that's where he met Porter. The coaches moved him to right back during camp and he apparently did well at the position. He plays a holding midfield role on his current team but sees time at RB whenever national scouts are in attendance. I have often thought he would make a good RB because of his outstanding quickness, speed, and acceleration. He also has an uncanny ability to make runs forward which you all know Kofie has in abundance. He went to Europe with the SuperElite team this summer and that's what his European coaches thought was his best asset, saying he had a "spark" for getting forward. And as to his size, let's put it this way: My first destination after getting my driver's license was McDonald's. His first destination? The gym so he could get a workout in.
