Zips @ NIU

Recommended Posts

The Zips take on the Huskies of NIU Saturday at 4:00. This is always a hard-fought battle and I don't think that will change this time around. NIU plays to the level of competition, whether that's a top 5 team or a low-level patsy which makes them wildly inconsistent but potentially dangerous.

We'll be short-handed for this match. Ampai will be sitting out due to an injury. He will be back for the game at Penn State on Wednesday.

Anyone know who'll cover Ampai's spot in the starting lineup?

The starting lineup has been pretty static except for the one midfield position that has been started by either Speas, Stevenson, or Caldwell at different points in the season. Perhaps two of those three start the next game instead of just one of them. The other option I could see Porter going with is Martin Ontiveros, who has on more than one occasion been the one to come on the field the few times Ampai goees out, usually toward the end of the match. If I guess all of those players and I'm not right with one of those predictions, then I give up haha

Hopefully we will be able to get some revenge on NIU after the slaughtering their football team brought to Akron last week.

Akron got out shot and seemingly out possessed. Just from the box score, it looks like we were lucky to escape with the win. NIU seems to know how to play us tough. Hopefully Akron has a good bounceback win against Penn State. We've been really good this year coming off of games that we played poorly. It would be nice to see a little consistency. We've played 3 poor games this year, NIU, Cincinatti, and OSU. You could also count the USF exhibition match. You can't get away with that in the tourney.

Having been there, it was a dirty game by a dirty team. The referee started out fine, then lost control by not making obvious calls starting about halfway through the first half. Meves was hurt by a cheap shot. Hopefully, he will be ready for the Penn State game. Poni was great.

I hope the Rowdies are relentless if NIU comes to Lee Jackson Field for the MAC Tournament.
