Zip_ME87
I know there's already an Akron vs IU thread, but I think this deserves it's own. Coach Porter continues to show how AWESOME he is. In this message to fans, Caleb says that he has bought 500 tickets to Sunday's game vs IU that he is giving out on campus to students. Whether you are a student, an alumnus, or just a fan, please show up to this game. Indiana is a strong opponent, and this team and coach deserve our support. They have so much pride in themselves and The University of Akron, it's the least that we can do to pack Lee Jackson Field for 2 hours on Sunday and show them how thankful and proud we are of their hard work and to help them reach their ultimate goal. Thank you Coach Porter for completely embracing my Alma Mater and its history and for wanting to make it even better! Thanks so much to this team for all of their hard work on and off the field, during the season and off-season (which I've discovered they don't get much time off given developmental leagues and US developmental team play). meatwad
I think I am not alone in saying that this is pretty cool of Coach Porter to do. However, I'm also probably not the only one that would say that the crowd last Sunday was disappointing. There is no reason that Sunday should not be packed beyond capacity. Biggest game of the season against an opponent whose fans will likely travel well. Everybody needs to be there and be loud - like the Tulsa game. bisbee
I heard that he will be headed to either Chivas or DC United. If Chivas is the destination, then he'll be reunited with two of his former Zips (Zemanski and Gavin). The above is from a thread on bigsoccer.com talking about Div 1 coaching changes for next season. Poster says he heard this from a source "close to the program". I know there are rumors about this sort of stuff all the time but do any of you have any specifics?

zip37
Caleb has stated numerous times he is building to become a perrenial power in college socce; he's also said he's very happy here, now, what do you have to hear to understand this honest and upstanding coach is staying? I believe he is a man of his word!

Dave in Green
If they win the College Cup he's gone. Or he decides that building a long-running national soccer dynasty in Akron, Ohio, is a more impressive career accomplishment than anything he or any other coach could accomplish at one of the "name" schools where everyone automatically expects success. Zip_ME87
I believe that everything you have seen concerning Coach Porter's locale next season is all conjecture. He has stated before that the "grass isn't always greener elsewhere"; The U of A/donors have provided the upgrades to the soccer pitch that he requested. He's able to recruit with and above the other top teams in the country. He has commitments from Ohio and other parts of the country, including a player from the Sounders developmental system. He has two former players who have gotten looks from the USMNT and the DR of Congo National Team. He has coached for US Men's developmental teams. All the indications to me show that he likes working with/developing young talent. He, personally, has the respect of NSCAA, and his/our Akron Zips have respect throughout the country. He likes Akron, and he makes a good living here, doing what he loves. Why would he want to uproot his family for Chivas USA or DC United? Yeah, maybe the money is more, but I can't see how he could be happier at either location than he is/can be at Akron. This is MY OPINION (no inside information on my part). However, I will say, that the one thing that I'm sure will keep Coach Porter happy at Akron beyond all others is for a huge crowd to show up for the NCAA 3rd round tomorrow. No matter what adversity OUR team has had this season, they are the 3rd seed (out of 48 teams who made the NCAA Tourney out of >200 D1 teams) . They need and deserve OUR support. We all need to let go of our NEO "woe is me" mentality and support OUR team in full force tomorrow. THIS IS AKRON! GO ZIPS!

Building a soccer dynasty at UA is a true legacy. Take notes, Lebron. The only thing worth leaving for is head coach of the USMNT and the World Cup. If he chooses to do so, we should appoint an interim head coach and welcome Coach Porter back with open arms after his international tenure is up. jem101
Can we please stop discussing rumors on here till after the season is over. Right now, I don't care about what's going to happen after the season. All that matters right now is that the Zips take care of Indiana tomorrow. Key match up tomorrow is definitely Zarek v. Will Bruin. Bruin is 6'2" and 194 pounds. I saw him on the B10 network earlier this year when IU took on UCLA and he is a beast. He really physical and should give our back line all they can handle. Indiana averaged 1.66 goals a game in the regular season and gave up 1.39 goals a game. Their defense seems to be very suspect. Their keeper is Luis Soffner. He has some ties with the NE Ohio region. He played his freshmen and sophomore years with St. Ignatius and he played with the Cleveland Internationals. Indiana is an extremely dangerous team when they're on the top of their game, but they are very inconsistent. They were 9-7-2 this season. My prediction is 4-2 Zips with Bruin doing his best to keep this one close.
yazan07
Today I was at Spaghetti Warehouse with a friend and she noticed a team walking in and I turned around and to my surprise and excitement it was IU's soccer team. On the weekends there is a kid who works there making balloon animals for donations. I had him make a kangaroo, and as we were leaving I took it over to their table. I asked for Luis and I handed it to him, patted him on the back and told him that it was for good luck and that tomorrow he and I were going to be friends. I told them to enjoy their last meal and got a good laugh out of the coaches.

I really hope there is a much bigger crowd than there was for the WVU game! GO ZIPS! My prediction: 3-1 Zips, and bring on Cal-Berkley. Z.I.P.
Will someone please post a link to the Gametracker for the IU @ Akron game on here? I cannot download the NCAA Bracket -- which I assume is where it is located. I have my fingers crossed that I can get some sort of access to this game. UA Fan
The crowd looks good from what I can tell, they're just showing the edges of the field. It looks chilly but very sunny. IU is playing good defense...nothing much is open.
UAZipster0305
I really hope the crowd is huge. There is no reason for it not to be. I'd be there if I could. Cal just went up 1-0 on Brown. UNC tied the game against MSU in the last 10 seconds. They are in OT now.
