letter from the athletic department

Just got a letter in the mail today from the athletic department. Just curious what people's thoughts were that received them. I am assuming they were sent to all season ticket holders. For those who don't have season tickets I'll paraphrase.

1. hope you notice we put a lot of money into the football program.

2. thank you for making a commitment to the football program.

3. we don't take your commitment lightly.

4. disappointed with the results.

5. thanks our support during a season like this

6. they aren't discouraged about the future.

7. they expect to compete for a mac title year after year and that is their goal.

8. talks about the upcoming home schedule FIU, VMI, OU, Temple, CMU, and Can't State.

Very honest letter. I am happy they sent something out like this.

Thoughts?

:screwks:

I haven't received one (yet?). I did not attend the last 2 games, is that why i didn't get it?

Probably - my letter included a 'thank you' for attending all the games

I have four reserved season tickets and attended all games. Still waiting for my letter. Thanks for keeping us little guys updated.

I was pleasantly surprised when I received my letter. I took it as a positive. I was going to re-up for season tickets anyway, but it was a nice gesture. They are obviously very concerned for next year, as witnessed not only by this letter but also by my treatment at the Buffalo game. I forgot my tickets, so I went inside to see if I could have duplicates printed. I was obliged by a very helpful young man. When I thanked him for his assistance, he looked me dead in the eye and said "Thank YOU for coming to the game today".

They are trying to reach out to us and show their appreciation for our support. I respect that.

I received the letter but I was so disheartened by the season and the circumstance, I read it and discarded it as rather disingenuous.

I felt as if they (UA football and the AD) HAD to say something--that will not translate, in my view, into a change of methodology in the future. I challenge them to turn this thing around.

And I think that the collective attrition by players during the season placed the team at a complete disadvantage--and that is a function of the coach and his demeanor. Anyone can write a letter of contrition--I believe it was more intended to sell us all on renewal of tickets.

I hope I am wrong here but I am completely underwhelmed by our coach and the future ahead. Prove me wrong, coach.

Go Zips!!

The letter is just good business. They know that we know that they seucked this year, but, they wanted to thank us for the support we gave them. I'm waiting to see what the price will be for season tickets next year before I re-up. If they are too pricey, I will just buy them on a game by game basis.

I am probably going to go that route as well. I can't justify spending $500 again for the product on the field.

All right, i guess i just was impatient. I got my letter today

Definitely a good move. I'm sold to renewing 2 tickets next year.

You've gotta be kidding.

Not kidding at all. That's the only school i went to and that's the only D1 college football team i care about. As long as the Athletic department and the Coach show that they care and are at least trying to do something, they have my support.

I am a very reasonnable person. Here is what will keep me happy:

2011: Must win no less than 4 games.

2012: Must have a winning record in the MAC.

2013: Must be Bowl eligible and compete for the conference.

He's not kidding .. he's a ZIPS FAN! And a good one. Not a mildly interested passer-by. A fan.

Go Zips!

Hey ZipRoo.....just curious since you're relatively new on Zipsnation. How long have you been following the Zips?

Over 35 years. Attended the school, go to most home games (and have for years), numerous away games (including the MAC title & Motor City Bowl), and my dad quarterbacked the Zips multiple seasons. Not just a passing interest. Thanks for asking.

Excellent! Then you should probably have some interesting commentary to add beyond your resolute disdain for iCoach. Plus, I assume this means you're in this for the long haul. Many of us (myself included) were not fans of this HC hire. The reality is, short of some off-field error in judgement, he's here for a couple more years. I'm curious to see what he can do with a full recruiting class. I've said in other threads that I think the players his staff personally landed in 2010 have shown promise for the most part. We'll see.

Could someone please do some research on another Div. 1 coach that was hired without ever being a coordinator and never playing football...

... JD Brookhart.

... Lee Owens.

JD was both a player (WR at Colorado St.) and an offensive coordinator (Pitt). Owens graduated from Blufton, but I'm not sure about his playing status.
