When I read the title of this thread, I thought to myself "Not even 5 hours after winning the championship there's already someone raining on our parade". Thankfully, I was wrong.

I agree, BUT this should just be the continuation of dominant Akron soccer. Akron has always had a really good soccer program, especially over the last few years and it's not as if we've never been a really good team before. If there's one thing to take from this championship, it's that Porter is always going to play the same type of game that got us here in the first place. I have faith in our fearless leader to continue his winning ways. The bar has been set for next year's team. Its up to Porter and the guys on the pitch to put it together again.

But... for the next 8 months, WE are the best team in the nation and WE are soccer kings. Nobody else can say that until the final whistle next December.

That said, you have to understand their point of view. For their entire life they've had to listen to people tell them that OSU is important and Akron is small time. You've got to commend some of these guys for sticking to a team, regardless of how incredibly hard it can be.

Some even texted me yesterday to let me know how boring the game was (they are out of their minds, that was one of the most exciting sporting events in world history).

Also, just being around Northeast Ohio, at Browns games, Indians games, or at the mall, I've seen OSU fans that see me wearing Akron colors and point out that "AKRON SUCKS IN FOOTBALL" (as they laugh) or something along those lines.

It's annoying, Buckeyes fans in general (the VAST majority) are douches, and they bring it upon themselves with how they treat fans of other teams.

So whenever i see someone wearing Buckeyes gear at Akron sporting events, they get an earful from me and my friends (and usually more people join in) until they leave or they take it off.

As others have pointed out around here, the mentality of the local community with this sense that collegiate sports begin and end in the state capital drives a lot of the negativity. Texts from friends. Wow, I guess I am a jerk that way too then. I have customers all over the Southeast and whenever their teams lose I send them emails and texts too. They do the same back. I had a great time with my New Orleans customers when the Browns won. We all look at it as fun and screwing around. That's what friends do. I wouldn't do it with someone that I don't consider a freind. There is talking smack in a friendly competitive way and being a jerk about it. The people here are mostly jerks about it.
