Captain Kangaroo Posted December 8, 2005 Report Posted December 8, 2005 Wow...is it even worth comment? Who the hell formulated that match up? Couldn't we have scrimmage the U of A intramural champs or my summer softball team or Mogadore's JV girls instead? One on 5 vs. Jim Dennison would have been more competitive. Random notes: * Goddard's title of "instant offense" has been usurped. I think I'd rather watch Futch hoist 3's than Goddard thusfar. * Quade appears to be the future loser in PT to Rybek or Linart. I'm still waiting for Quade to show anything on offense. Meanwhile Linart is getting points and rebounds and Rybek looks to be effective too. * Sowers has a sweet shot. I wonder if he can stroke it vs. the better competition? * Bubba hit some 3's again...but I also wonder if he can do it against the better competition, where the defense is tougher and he has to work for a shot. * Futch started off shooting fade-aways and rushing his shot. Against these midgets it was pretty puzzling. He quicky realized it wasn't Cal he was up against and began abusing them. Good to see him be aggressive and confident. * Ok...the Z-I-P-S cheer that rotates the JAR is better. AC Slater is gone...people are getting into it. Now speed it up. Start slow...then get it flying around the JAR. After about 8 rounds of it at 33RPM I think people are starting to go to sleep. * Can we stop scheduling this D-3 tripe beginning next season? Please? * I loved KD'd post game interview. Speaking on Mississippi State..." After we beat them we'll play Clemson." God damn he's a breath of fresh air after hearing Hipsher make excuses and hide from any sort of major opponent. * Richmond gave Louisville a scare, so why can't we beat them? Play smart, Rome! Quote
zippyrifle32 Posted December 8, 2005 Report Posted December 8, 2005 although it was a bit of a confidence booster, i think it would be of a greater benefit to not play a d3 school. i'm not trying to say that all d3s are below us because we are d1, because on every level there are teams that can play up and compete, but in this case...well look at the score i must say that i was excited to watch the bence play. new faces given the chance to prove themselves. Buckzip Posted December 9, 2005 Report Posted December 9, 2005 Does anyone know the status of Conyers? Quote

If a D3 team stays within 20 points of a D1 team that is considered a moral victory. Still, good win for Zips. Quote

zipfan 81 Posted December 9, 2005 Report Posted December 9, 2005 I think what they are saying is it is a morale victory for a DIII team if they stay within 20... Conyers is out for the year because of academics.... Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted December 9, 2005 Author Report Posted December 9, 2005 I think what they are saying is it is a morale victory for a DIII team if they stay within 20... Conyers is out for the year because of academics.... Conyers is 90% certain out due to transcript issues, not grades. Allegedly there's a slim chance he could still play. The problem was not with the high school where he graduated, but from a prior high school (he had transferred during his junior year). That is my understanding. Quote
zippyrifle32 Posted December 10, 2005 Report Posted December 10, 2005 that's too bad, but from my experiences here our academic advising for athletes is not doing a very good job. i know a lot of athletes they've messed up on. Quote
zipboy Posted December 11, 2005 Report Posted December 11, 2005 Not sure the Conyers situation but to add to the comment above, I rode on the bus to Detroit with a former football player who played late 90s. He said that his advisor had no clue what was going on. The advisor had him sign up for 15-17 credit hours during football and he was a computer science major. He ended up dropping a class or 2 the first couple of years till he figured out what made sense. Guess it depends who you get. Quote
