Your list is very anti TW

I jumped on the AD bashing bandwagon early in the football season, but given his record supporting our soccer team, TW is 'ok' in my book.

Posted

So icoach is TW's fault, although he may turn out to not be anybody's fault, B-McKnight is TW's fault, although no body has any clue what the real story is.

On the other hand, CP gets an extension, the stadium's rennovation, and the Soccer team wins a national championship (no mention of TW).

To summarize, anything that is not so good is the AD's fault and every thing good is just good by the grace of God and the AD has nothing to do with it!!!

We get it GoZips, you hate TW and you will keep finding "creative" ways to bash him; I am only left wondering What is your next thread's title going to be.

TW has done a lot of good things for athletics, and he has also done some questionable things like what happened with Brett McKnight or Reno Ferri. But I think the good outweighs the bad. He was instrumental in getting us an exclusive deal with STO for unprecedented amounts of TV coverage (something people here seem to take for granted). He supports our winning programs in a big-time way. He is making rookie mistakes, but overall I think he has us heading in the right direction.

Wow...some harsh stuff, right on down to criticizing who KD puts on the floor as a top-10 news story?

GoZips. Relax for awhile on the PG issue. If I recall, you were pretty vocal about Humpty being the great savior of Akron Basketball a few years ago too. For the time being, we have two very experiences senior guards who will have a big impact on our success this year.

haha, for what it's worth, i agree with most of this top 10.

TW's negatives outweigh the positive in my opinion. The soccer things are no brainers, come on people, the worst AD ever (Can't State's last) would have done the same thing. The sad thing is that he got a big no brainer wrong:

Hiring someone without HC experience/any experience as HC.

WOW. A lot of pent up anger from the posters.

I only presented my list of the top ten news stories affecting Akron sports in 2010.

I get the sense that I needed to praise TW for his quick actions in inking CP to an extended contract.

Which to me was the number two story of the year.

In a previous posts I twice mentioned good things that TW did including wading into the Pacific with

the soccer team. Did anyone mention that Dr. Porenza also made that walk?

As for TW and B McK, sorry, a goodly number of us DO know what transpired. I am not going to go

into details. That was not part of my top ten list.

While the Zips have two good if not almost excellent senior guards, neither is much better than a

pedestrian point guard. And, I am not responsible for Humpty "blowing up". He managed that on

his own. If Santa hands you the reins you don't drive the sleigh off a cliff.

I was kind of expecting others to give their own top ten lists rather than criticizing me. So be it.

#10. LBJ abandons his friends and homeboys for the glitter of South Park (er, burp, Beach)

Not exactly a "Zips News Story" here. LeBron's connections to Zips athletics are really pretty minimal in the grand scheme of things, particularly in comparison to guys like Gary Taylor at Infocision.

#9. icoach totally destroys a semi-functional college football program

Not trying to defend Icoach too much, but to call our football program "semi-functional" is prior to 2010 is a stretch. We were a losing program on a downward spiral when he got here. He completed the spiral into disfunctional, but it isn't like he had that far to go.

#8. The university hires an enabler to hire icoach

Technically wasn't TW hired in 2009 or is my memory fading a bit?

#7. Inept new hire AD trashes popular men's basketballer's senior season

I wouldn't exactly call Brett McKnight the most popular player on the team. Nor would I say that TW trashed his season. Brett did something to warrant the suspension, and I personally believe the situation was handled properly by keeping as much information private and internal as possible. Brett has three months left to make something out of his senior season. It's on him to get his act together, not TW.

#6. Men's basketball team manages 24-11 season without a true point guard

No real argument here, although at this point I'm not sure how newsworthy this is.

#5. Light goes on in KD's head and he finally recruits a true point guard

I don't think the story on this one ends simply with recruiting a true PG. If you look at the end of KD's 2010 class and now the 2011 class you see a radical change in strategy. More athletic players (Gilliam, Treadwell, Harney, Abreu, Ibitayo), transfers (Gilliam, Walsh), non-qualifiers (Treadwell, Harney). The light that went on for KD was the realization that he had taken the team as far as it could go with over-acheiving, high basketball IQ kind of guys and that to continue to improve he needed to make a change. The final story is far from written on this one, particularly with so few of those players actually in uniform to this point.

#4. University upgrades soccer stadium to befit a perennial top five soccer program

No argument here, a much needed investment in a deserving program. Very smart move by the University and the AD's office.

#3. Women's basketball has best season in their history 18-11

Yawn. This deserves to be on here, but #3? Not trying to sound to insulting, but women's hoops is largely irrelevant in the U.S. outside of a few localized pockets (Tennessee and Connecticut come to mind). Northeast Ohio is not one of those pockets and likely never will be.

#2. CP gets well deserved salary and incentive increases

No argument there. You have a coach who by all indications has his mind set on building a dynasty, has a plan to do it and has already shown the ability to do it, you do everything in your power to make him happy.

#1. Men's soccer program from a mid level university stuns BCS world by winning the

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP ... !!!!!

Was there ever any doubt that this was #1?

I have to agree with Go here; if you ignore #7, the McK thing was not on his list.
