Ryno aka Menace Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 ORLANDO, Fla. -- The University of Central Florida is set to build a $51 million stadium for its vastly improved football team. The school's board of trustees on Wednesday approved a financial plan for the 45,000-seat stadium, which could open for the 2007 football season. The Golden Knights have made the second-biggest turnaround in NCAA history. They went from 0-11 last season to 8-4, playing for the Conference USA championship and going to a bowl for the first time. UCF will play Nevada on Dec. 24 in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2260154 I have heard speculation about where the new stadium could be...by the Polsky building, Lee Jackson, Central Hower, etc. Has anyone heard about the estimated costs and seating capacity? And do you think when Akron wins this bowl game it will spark another push for a new stadium? Quote
Buckzip Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 It needs to happen fast. We are entering a very important time in UA football. Quote
Zips fan Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 I have heard that the spot behind the fieldhouse is most likely. I have heard numbers in the $60M range for the stadium. I hope the athletics department makes an announcement soon!! Quote
Wally B Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 I think we would benefit by placing the stadium as close to Main St. as possible, but my heart says it will be located next to the fieldhouse tio make use of the locker-room facilities :macc: . A 45,000 seat stadium sounds good to me, as long as it doesn't end up looking like Dix. Quote
Quickzips Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 Just so long as we don't put up a glorified high school stadium and we put it up ON CAMPUS. I'm fine. Quote
xu9697 Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 It would seem that a 30-35,000 stadium would make the most sense, with the flexibility to add 10-15,000 when (if) necessary. Here is a great site for stadium building news: http://www.footballstadiumdigest.com/ Quote
a-zip Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 Agreed, 30-35k would be a nice size. Let me tell ya, Uconn's Rentschler Field is beautiful and seats about 40k. Rentschler Field Replicate that with 30-35k seats and less suites......WOW. My vote is for a smaller enclosed stadium like this. Intimate and Loud! Quote
zipalong Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 When the stadium is built it will be behind the field house and about 25000. Take it from there, Quote
