Earlier this year.

I see. It always sounds strange at first when the small colleges rename themselves as universities. UMU, huh? Do they get to keep all the football statistics of MUC?

I work out toward Alliance & while most people simply refer to the school as Mount Union, if they want to include "University" in the name I've heard most people say Mount Union University. The University of Mount Union just doesn't sound right, since the school is located in Alliance. However, I was told that waaaaaay back in the day, the little section of town right around the intersection of Union & State Street was known as Mount Union. So, though no one under 80-years-of-age would know this, I guess it makes sense.

On a side note, the smaller colleges - Walsh, Malone & Mount are feeling pressure to change their names from "College" to "University" in order to attract foreign students. Apparently in europe "college" simply means high school, whereas "university" means post-secondary or higher education.

I agree though, that in America is sounds strange. When I hear "university" I think of a UA or Can't State - mega schools where research takes place. When I hear "college" I think of Walsh, Malone & Mount - small, liberal arts schools.
