ZachTheZip
I missed Doug Legursky. I thought Marshall left the MAC by the time he played there. For Pittsburgh, Ryan Mundy played at Michigan for four years before transferring to WVU to graduate. If you want to count that out as a technicality, fine. Donovan Warren played for Michigan. For the Packers, Mike Neal went to Purdue. Mark Tauscher went to Wisconsin.
ZachTheZip
The MAC only has 15 players in the Super Bowl, according to the MAC office.
Dr Z
For Pittsburgh, Ryan Mundy played at Michigan for four years before transferring to WVU to graduate.Woodland Hills superstar Ryan Mundy graduated from Michigan in 2007 with a year of eligibility remaining. Instead of finishing his college football career at Michigan, Mundy decided to enroll at West Virginia University and join the Mountaineers football team for the 2007 season. He took advantage of an NCAA rule that allowed seniors to transfer to another school and participate in athletics without having to sit out a season (as is normally required) if they wish to pursue a field of study that was unavailable at their previous school. Mundy enrolled at West Virginia and began work on a master's degree in sports administration. I'll let you count him. Thanks for missing the point of the original comment. Dr Z
"Nobody was left but Ken+" A remarkable 41 of the 106 players on the Super Bowl rosters played at schools from outside the six BCS leagues, including seven guys from either the old Division I-AA or D-II ranks. That’s a lot of great players who once slipped through the signing day cracks.
MDZip
Peter King (SI) and Gregg Easterbrook (ESPN) have both touched on this topic before. They have opined that the "less-privileged" players have a chip on the shoulder and something to prove while the folks who have had it a little easier and sometimes assume that just talent will get them by get surpassed by the guys who go all out every play. Might explain some of this.
acstorfer
As a New Jersey native, long time Giants fan, 2007 was so special a win for me. Besides my beloved Giants winning their third Super Bowl, it was so cool seeing Dominic Hixon and Chase Blackburn representing. So what Chase couldn't get off the field! Do any other Zips sport Super Bowl rings besides Dominic and Chase?

He even had two interception returns for TD's and would have been a likely choice for MVP had it not already been awarded before his second interception return. Thank you. I just wish Jason Taylor was playing today. Not even so much for the Jets, again they are a local team, but not many deserve a ring as much as JT. And LT as well, but he wasn't a Zip! And the Giants did not make the playoffs because of the injury to Hix. They never got a return man all season. Hix is consistently one of the best in the league on punts and kicks. I hope he can make it back.
Dr Z
I would say Jennings, Starks and Zombo made significant contributions to help win a Super Bowl for GB. Congrats to them and they other Green Bay MAC players.
MDZip
I always wondered a bit about why players mention their high schools and not colleges during pre-game intros, I thought maybe they had a beef witgh their college. Anyway, tuns out some were just being honest. One of those was Greg Jennings. Gregg Esatrebrook had a nice summary of it in his TMQ articcle on ESPN this week. Also I noted that on NBC's "Sunday Night Football," players introduce themselves by school, and about 10 percent cite their high schools. Of these players, I asked, are they "shouting out their home towns -- or being honest?" Reader Scott Berg of Green Bay, Wis., points out this report that Greg Jennings of the Packers has been introducing himself as from Kalamazoo High because he attended Western Michigan but did not graduate. He's been honest with viewers. Late last fall Jennings finally completed his credit hours -- busting his butt to get an A in algebra -- and now has recorded a new NBC intro in which he says, "Greg Jennings, Western Michigan." Congratulations: for being honest, for getting the degree, and for setting a positive example.
