RootforRoo44 Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 I know i know, we already have the AK-Rowdies but this would be for non UA students, alumni, locals, and whoever. It wont be a student exclusive group. It would definitely benefit the program to have more serious supporters and that's the idea. Another serious group of supporters (working with the Rowdies of course) would help get the rest of the people in attendance on the same page and create a real football atmosphere at the Pouch. We would of course get our own scarfs, our own pre/post game bar, and host various events. What are you guys' thoughts on this? Also, we are brainstorming on names, and these are the leaders right now:Stu's CRooBuchtel's BrigadeExchange Street EliteParry's ArmyCaleb's CRooAkron ROOligansLet me know if you have any name ideas, are interested in joining, or if you hate the idea. You could use that name. from what i understand, the goal patrol was just a specific student group for soccer but eventually was renamed to the rowdies once that (the rowdies) became an officially recognized UA student organization. many of the core rowdies today were in the goal patrol. honestly, make sure whatever name you get is unique. ROOligans fits that. And if this takes off, it'd be nice to see this group make the west goal equally as noisy as the east goal. Quote

I think it was later discovered that some other school already had a "goal patrol" and so we thought it better not to recycle someone else's name. That is the story I've heard. I guess since I am graduating soon I would throw my support behind something new. Although it may sound just a bit cheesy, Rooligans is an awesome name. It shows our identity while paying tribute to traditional soccer hooliganism. I love it, and this is coming from a guy who HATES when they try to shove the words "roo" or "zip" into anything they can find. This time though, it think it's clever and actually makes sense. Quote

Yeah I've seen GSH (anyone who hasn't should go watch it immediately, it's awesome) but a hooligan is someone that essentially starts fights with other groups. I don't think we are going for that (unless Can't brings back their soccer program ). But seriously, I like Exchange Street Elite a lot, and my second pick is Parry's Army. I'm a huge fan of it, with the program founder being Stu Parry. I think it makes a bit more "menacing" and also is a good homage to the tradition. Rooligans is my gf's idea for a name. I like it but it would have to be Akron Rooligans or something adding another word to it, it's gotta have at least two words to be a good supporters' group name i think. I should have added a poll to this, maybe i will once someone comes up with a set name involving "rooligans" to put up against the other names. Quote
