johnnyzip84
9:20 a.m. ET Let's not forget that also included in today's signing class is Clayton Moore, 6-1, 210, QB from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (signed originally with Ole Miss) and Vinnie Rizzo, 6-3, 275, C from Nassau Community College. Moore attended Louisville HS in Louisville, Miss., and Rizzo Manhassett HS in Manhassett, N.Y. Both enrolled in class at UA last month and will be with the team for spring practice in March and April. While still big enough, Moore's HT/WT listed here are smaller than on some other sites. Rizzo must have played against WR AJ Price since Dean and Nassau are in the same JUCO conference.
KentZip
Rizzo must have played against WR AJ Price since Dean and Nassau are in the same JUCO conference. Which could explain how they "found" Price if Rizzo is already on campus?

johnnyzip84
10:27 a.m. ET Speaking of quarterbacks, Kyle Pohl's NLI just came across the fax. He weighs in at 6-3, 205 from Farmersville, Ohio and Valley View High. That brings today's signee list to 17 student-athletes (15 newcomers plus QB Clayton Moore and C Vinnie Rizzo, who have already enrolled). 10:17 a.m. ET ESPNU's all-day coverage of National Signing Day just ran a feature on Akron quarterbacks coach Ron Powlus, who signed at Notre Dame in 1992. He was named Parade Magazine's prep player of the year and USA Today's offensive prep player of the year as a HS senior. He is featured in this week's ESPN Magazine as well. 10:15 a.m. ET A pair of Glenville HS teammates just signed with the UA. DBs Johnny Robinson, 5-10, 180, and Devonte Morgan, 5-11, 180, both join the Zips after standout careers under coach Ted Ginn in Lewis Center, OH. 10:00 a.m. ET Another wave of faxes just arrived. Safety Bryce Cheek, 6-0, 176, from Olentangy HS in Lewis Center, Ohio, OL John Clay, 6-3, 340, from East St. Louis HS in Illinois and Tyrell Goodman, 6-2, 210, from Archbishop Stepinac HS (Coach Ianello's alma mater) have all sent their NLIs to Akron. Clay at 6'-3" 340 LB! They didn't state a position (s) for Tyrell Goodman yet (HS QB). WR is looking like a probable spot for him.

johnnyzip84
11:10 a.m. ET Two more NLIs are in ... James Price, 6-2, 285, DT from Woodland Hills High School in Woodland, Pa. ... Zach Paul, a 6-4, 205, P/K from Padua High in Broadview Heights, Ohio. 11:03 a.m. ET An overlooked aspect of National Signing Day is that a recruit has to fax their national letter of intent to us before we can announce they have signed. That is easier said than done on a day like today, when high schools around the region are closed due to the massive winter storm which has affected much of the country and been brutal to the midwest and northeast. Some of the high school coaches of our signees have gone to great lengths to get to a fax machine this morning. 10:59 a.m. ET Isaiah Williams, 6-3, 250, DE from John Adams High School in Cleveland; and Justin March, 6-0, 207 LB from Danville HS in Danville, Ill., bring the signing class to 20. It's nice to see James Price listed at 6'2", 285 LB (as opposed to the earlier reports of 6'1", 260 LB). Possible catch phrase for this class: The Price is Right? ZachTheZip
Now we're at 23 signees. Assuming that Zach Paul greyshirts, that leaves three spots. Still waiting on ATH Jabari Thomas.
ZachTheZip
Ianello's twitter announcing the creation of a "12th man non-scholarship program". johnnyzip84
11:23 a.m. ET The letter of intent of from Nick Rossi, a highly-touted 6-0, 230, FB/LB, from Riverside High in Moosic, Pa., just came across the fax. Glad to see the staff still considers him a possibility on either side of the ball.

ZachTheZip
No new LOIs have come in for quite some time. 12:24 p.m. ET Akron's national championship men's soccer team is expected to announce its signing class next week. In case you missed it, the program had seven players drafted in last month's MLS SuperDraft. 12:10 p.m. ET Remember, today isn't just National Signing Day for football. The women's soccer staff is going through the same thing today as is the football program. Check out this blog about women's soccer signees. 11:45 a.m. ET YouTube interviews with head coach Rob Ianello and members of his staff are coming and will be posted on this page throughout the afternoon. Stay tuned.
