Z-P
Did that suck you in? Surfing, and hiding out from the sarge , I just watched the last half of "Gallipoli", a 1981 flick staring Mel G and others. Know the story line? The Brits invaded Turkey in 1914 because Winston Churchill said they'd be no problem to knock off, and they were allies of Germany in WW1. Know what happened? I did, being a student of history, but I sat thru it anyway, and got reinforced. Brits got their asses handed to them. Dragged the Aussies, Kiwis and Indians (from India) with them. They left their blood on the beaches of Gallipoli also. Here's the point. I'm a news hound. I'm extremely well read. (Last book Al Franken's Liars) I travel the globe (as Cap'n and ZFF know) regularly.......so I have a "feel" for what's happening. OK? Slugs (and I am totally serious here) I think we (The USA and it's citizens) are in the most desperate straits we have ever been in.......................in my entire life. I'm scared. Do you know how many "western powers" have gone into the Middle East with military might to "bring them into the modern world" since 1200 AD? No fewer than 10. All failed. But now you and I have aligned ourselves with a cat (W, who I too supported)who is going to "bring democracy to Iraq and the surrounding countries" because "some power has told him to do this" and look what is happening. It's the shits. No, it's not Vietnam. I was around then, and this is different. It's worse. Religion is involved. That's the worst. OK, there it is. An ugly bucket has been dumped on ZW's ZipNation Board. I wouldn't start this if we weren't heading into the quite times, but WTF. If you guys want to pursue this, I'm in. If not, I'll go back to reporting on the Sopranos, and Adrianna's boycut panties............. One more thing so you know where I'm coming from..................I'm an economic conservative, and social liberal...............so I'm one of those guys who has no party, so don't stick me in one. zipper
I'm scared too. The only difference, and it is a very big one, between Britain's war with Turkey and this one is Turkey wasn't killing thousands of people in Britain in terrorist strikes. It is a little more difficult to apply the lessons of the past to the situation today. This is different, much as we'd like to forget 9/11 and just ignore the future threat. Sometimes I think GW should just say, okay we'll pull out. And then, in a few months or years, when there is ANOTHER massive terrorist strike, maybe this time in LA or Chicago, everyone might agree we need to fight terrorism. I don't know how many US civilian deaths it would take for maybe 80% of the country to get together on this. I do know this war is being politicized by both sides because of the election year. I do believe the only way to fight terrorism is for the middle east to be settled and probably democracized. The only real question is if it is even possible. And if it's not possible, well God help us all, because terrorist groups are not going to leave the US alone, I can promise you that. Captain Kangaroo
Shouldn't this be on the MACbbs?
JP Morgan
Z-P, I come to this board to escape all the political/news of the day stuff . But since you brought it up, I will say this (and don't take it personally ) Al Franken is an idiot, you may actually become more stupid by reading his crap! Zipper, ditto to everything you said! Terrorists!!!!! Capn, to answer your question, this post would fit right in on MACbbs, which is precisley why I haven't vistited the sight for months. zipper
Hey! Why do I have a warning next to my "tag"? And I'm going back to MACbbs when the season starts to see what they're saying about us, and to possibly defend the Zips' honor, if necessary And have you ever been to JJHuddle? I'm debating whether or not to pay the ten bucks to register, but the faculty athletic rep from Ashland (he admits this- goes by Haammy or something like that) posts on JJHuddle college sections and he dogged our new basketball coach big time on the college basketball page. I'm sure he'll have a lot to say during football season, as well, since he's all goosed up to have LO as their coach.
zipsbandman
And I'm going back to MACbbs when the season starts to see what they're saying about us, and to possibly defend the Zips' honor, if necessary Are you kidding? Those jerks have no idea what kind of university this is turning into. They want us out of the mac plain and simple. We are "bottom feeders" who drag the conference down. We belong in IAA even though we are getting IA facilities and we have 1A enrollment Thats why I stoped posting there. We need more zip fans over there. Zipsrifle
Z-P, Zipper, I am not opposed to this type of political discussion happening on the board..I find it interesting, but maybe it should have been posted under the "General Discussion" category? That forum is rarely used and I usually take a look at all areas to see what is new. On the flip side of this is that despite the disadvantage of any punk being able to crash the dreamwater board, an advange was the lack of censorship. I understand that I don't necessarily add the most stimulating comments on this board, but I am a daily reader and you guys have increased my knowledge of what is going on by a hundred fold! I worry that this site will become limited to the few who are knowledgeable and the others will be forced to watch from the sidelines. IMO, this "Infraction" should have been met with the reply to move this discussion elsewhere without a warning. Any following infractions, then hit 'em. zipper
But then why was I warned but not the originator of the post, Z-P?
Z-P
OK, since I started all this, I’ll attempt to clean up my mess. 1. I apologize for being “too casual†and dropping posts on the board that are not topic specific…………….related to the uni…………. or are not in line with what the rest of you perceive to be the purpose of the board. Really, I mean that. I’m not a guy who wants to “ruffle feathers†or cause another to get “cranked†at me. 2. Just to explain……….I thought that because we “visited each other†daily on this forum (some days several times), we’d become “buddies†and could keep the board going by injecting “craziness†from time to time. My bad…….. I guess. But that’s where I was coming from. IMHO, this thing would go “dead†if it weren’t for the fun we have cracking on each other (like the dude getting after me all the time)………….but, again, it’s looking like most of you don’t care for this. Right? OK, I guess. So I am out. 3. This thread wasn’t intended to jam opinions up anyone’s crack, it was a 10PM post of a casual opinion (among friends?) after watching and thinking about a movie. I’ve seen these late night rants on the blue board and here before. They are almost always funny and entertaining……………also from time to time thought provoking. However, they are (or seemed to me to be) conversations among “friends†with common NEO/UA/sports/beer (Cap’n et al) interests. That’s all. 4. As to the censorship issue, this is ZipWatcher’s board. He’ll be doing whatever he thinks he should do. None of us have any control over that…………..and frankly speaking, I really don’t mind because my sense of ZW is way up on the Z-P ometer favorable side. But it is what it is. ZFF’s blue board got reeeeeeal ugly at the end, and I’d hate to see that again. 5. So, sorry (I guess)……….never mind the rant that started all this. Z-P, no problem bro, I don't mind going off the topic every now and then as well, with two exceptions (politics and religion). Those are two areas that most people have strong opinions about, and being that we're all friends here , I believe its better left "off the table." I use this board to escape, as I said before, the bombardment of coverage of all that stuff. That being said, no emoticans ( think thats what there called) in your last post What's the deal? Zip Watcher
Some thoughts on this topic: 1. This is why this particular forum (General .. etc) is here. Z-P .. please continue to drop your thoughts on the Zips Nation. If people don't want to read or reply to off-UA topics .. they don't need to. Drop them in this General forum and if someone's just interested in hoops, gridiron or rifle .. they don't have to come in here. 2. This is not my board. It is that of the Zips Nation. You'll see several people indicated as "Moderators." I'm merely the slug with the time and curiosity enough to get it going. 3. Warnings: To date, I believe we (the moderators) have only warned 2 people. One for gratuiitous use of multiple logins. One for trolling w/o substantive backup of flame-worthy opionions. Zipper, you have NOT been warned. When we had to warn the others for their infractions, the warning thing had to be turned on system wide. Everyone should see a warning level under their own name, and other than 2 special people, everyone should see 0% . That means you're cool. You will however, not see the warning levels of others, only your own. Zipper you didn't do anything to merit such an action .. and none was even considered. Sorry about the confusion .. hope this clears that up. 4. I too am shocked at Z-P's lack of smiley usage in the last post. I'm considering a warning for that. Finally, This forum is open to anything .. censorship has not been used yet, and barring any ridiculous posts & trolls .. it won't be. Neither I, the Doctor, CK or ZFF has time to worry about such things. This is here for all of us to use. Z-P and anyone should feel free to use this for things like this topic. In my view, and if you polled the others here, it's perfectly appropriate .. just drop it in the right box. So on with it .. no harm no foul! Guest Guest
Padre for President of Slug Academy!!! YES!!!! Finally some intelligent talk coming from Zipslanders. Well, at least that's the way it looks from over here in "America's France". Could that be the reason GoZips is talking about moving to the Pacific Paradise? Finally, I can't allow the space to roll past without a comment on the above. As you may have read in the papers, like Turkey in the UK (and what the heck do they eat on Thanksgiving, anyway?) Iraq has never attacked the United States, and the invasion of that nation has zero, nada, niente, zilch to do with the ongoing War on Terrorism (and someone tell W about the concept of prisoners of war versus his treatment of political prisoners at Guantanamo). Okay -- now I've had my jollies, and can relax and go surfing. I'm out on this topic. But mahalo nui loa Padre!
