Watched that great game last night, and I-M'ed 42 who was in Beijing in Mandarin immersion during and after the OT........we both loved it! I've been a little "skinny' on folllowing the U over the past few years, but it always warms me up to drop back in and still find Doc, Cap'n, GP1 and of course, the "Dean of UA Forum-BBall" Mr. Zip Watcher. And others too! Like Hilltopper, etc. Anyway, BOOYAH to all you guys, and Great Job to getting the most out of what you have to work with Coach KD! Go Zips! Always! The Zips won as a well-coached team of players who played to the best of their abilities. Not just throughout the championship game, but throughout the whole season, the Zips' team performance was a combination of coaching decisions, individual player performance, and team chemistry. Actually, they were so important, they should have been numbers 1,2&3. The other thing the Zips did last night was to follow a strategy I always say wins big MAC games. I believe that in a game between two closely matched teams, which we were last night, one team is more likely to blow a game than win the game. This is never intended as a slap in the face of the winning team. On the contrary, it is a compliment to the focus of the winning team. Akron stayed cool and made plays they had to make at crunch time never making a crushing mistake. How did Can't blow the game? Can't basically blew the game last night on the foul line. They went 12-23 (52%). The Zips were equally as terrible 8-17 (47%). Both are unacceptable averages and both can cost a team a game. If Can't shoots their average of 67.2% from the line last night, they have a little over three more points and we are all talking today about how Akron blew the game because of poor freet hrow shooting. That's what is most fun about talking about the game last night. It was an incredibly close game by two good teams and the Zips came out on top. A couple of plays go differently or Can't shoots 70% from the line and we are having a different conversation today. Enjoy this one. Championships are hard to come by. skip-zip Posted March 13, 2011 Report Share Posted March 13, 2011 I think all of this will at least start discussions that he's not winning this tournament when we're in a favored position. But, there's certainly no doubt now that he's done an amazing job guiding some of his lesser talented or lesser experienced lower seeded teams to MAC tourney titles. Tell me why Can't has more talent than Akron. I think we have some very talented players. My frustration with KD has been more about him not winning big games with what I consider having as much talent as the next guy in the MAC. Yesterday was one day and a great day. We need to strive to be this good all the time and string 2-3 years of MAC Championships together. This can be a great MAC program, but one day doesn't make it great. Where did I say that?
