Info on Prop 48 players

For those of you that don't go to the BJ web page:Prop 48 playersFootballI haven't seen much on new recruits lately. I know Akron is still after star safety Elijah Fields and star wide receiver Terrence McCrae. Until either of them commit, I'll update you on a couple of last year's signees who haven't played yet.Antwon Hight is a defensive tackle from Canton McKinley. Scout.com ranked him as the 36th best at his position in the country. Ohio State really wanted to get its hands on him. And Hight wanted to go to Ohio State. But he'll be the first person to tell you that his grades were terrible. So he had to go to classes at UA this fall to become eligible to play for the Zips. An inside source with the team tells me that Hight will be suited up for the Zips next season. I assume Nate Robinson, Jermaine Reid and Kiki Gonzalez will start on the defensive line, so Hight may have to wait a year before getting serious playing time.Jose Cruz is a tight end from Pennsylvania. Rivals.com ranked him as the 36th best tight end (not a typo, both Hight and Cruz are 36th). He also is enrolled in classes at UA. Playing time probably will be sparce for Cruz's first couple years. He will be behind Kris Kasparek (junior next year) and Merce Poindexter (sophomore next year). Marlon Terry was also a prized recruit. He was the 46th best defensive tackle and came from Buchtel High School in Akron. He is not in school. Don't expect to see him in pads anytime soon.Scott Uziel, another tight end from Pennsylvania, has transferred to a small school in his home state. My inside source tells me that Uziel is J.D. Brookhart's only recruit to transfer.By the way, if you asked me to guess, I'd say Fields is going to Ohio State and McCrae will sign with Akron

MRasor, Thanks for the info. Your Blog activity on Ohio.com has really picked up lately. Can you shed any light if the paper plans to continue increasing coverage of the Zips ? I would think that the recent showing of local support and interest would be something to capitalize on. Many have preached on the board that the Beacon's value to people in the internet news age is a strong tie to the local community and large university down the road. Any signs of change internally ? Football coverage has been good lately but will it continue - The BB team will be very good and deserves the coverage - someone forgot to put in the WSU game announcement and preview on gameday. That's not a good start.

i disagree about playing time for height. we need all the dl we can get our hands on. the biggest problem we had is no depth on our dl,and lb's / hopefully the kid from mc kinley will be eligible and get alott of pt.it would be nice to be able to rotate the d lineman.

Mike, are you sure you aren't getting Hight and Terry confused?? Terry was in camp with the Zips this year, so obviously he had to have been in school at least at the beginning of the fall. I had heard that Hight never enrolled. Also, the guy who could be the best of them all, Marshall, is supposedly doing very well and will be suited up for the Zips in the fall.

It seems that the ABJ will continue its good coverage of Zips sports with the increasing interest from the community. However, the paper has to battle with losing space due to tough economic times for newspapers.I hope the paper continues to scale back Ohio State coverage. I am really sick of reading about the Buckeyes and their long-haired linebackers. But as long as people follow Ohio State in the Akron area, the paper should keep writing about the team on some level. As for mixing up Hight and Terry, I don't believe I did. My source asked to remain anonymous, but I assure you he is one of the most credible sources within the university. He said Marlon Terry is no longer in class. Hight and Cruz will be eligible.

Good deal for Hight. That's news to me but I'm thrilled. Feel bad for Terry though. Great kid, great football player, but had some bad influences in his life. Sad to see he's out of school.

Hey ITZ,You know what I love? That shot of yours from the T'Giving game-------------------- And the part I really love is: The stocking cap. It goes to show, even a Can't man CAN be a Zip fan! Thanks for that. And while I'm at it, let me send out a shout to the Can't State women's bb team and their SID, who I met last week. I liked your attitude. Just don't let #23 bring that attitude into the JAR cause there'll be no :rolltide: for her. More like :nutkick: And you can tell her that wasn't Spanish that Hawaii's #15 was speaking to her in (she asked the ref: "Do you speak Spanish?") -- it was Samoan!Go MAC!

So far it looks like Cruz will be playing for sure. There is a CB that had commited to a big school, but came to akron for the same reason as hieght, that has been with the team since the begining of the season. I havent heard anything about Terry since like the third week of the season. Also i havent heard much about marshall in a while but i believe he is still with us. But as for terry and hieght i havent heard much about since early in the season.
