Z.I.P. Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 TopDrawer has a little write up on the defending champs' signing class - http://topdrawersoccer.com/players-to-watc...Top-100-players Doesn't it seem kinda strange that Top Drawer waited till now for this "Signing-Day Evaluation"? I could swear they published something about Akron's class previously. In any case, I don't know why Andy Chiu was left out -- he was listed in their Top-100 just prior to the original "signing day". Z.I.P. Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 I can't find the thread for our women's recruiting class, but on Top Drawer at least three of our recruits, Lexi Green and Megan Brascia of Las Vegas and Janese Atkinson of Cincinnati are in their Top-20 regional rankings. The Vegas ladies receive 4 stars and are #9/10 in the Rockie Mountain Region. I also happen to see a LOT of change from the pre-signing day rankings -- a local girl signed by my Hawaii Rainbow Wahine went from top-5 to unranked upon signing!! They must be taking lessons from the American football recruiting services. Quote
Z.I.P. Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 I meant to post this last month, but never found time: The top defender in the 2011 class, US U17 starter Andrew Oliver signed with the Hated Whosers, Akron's biggest rivals. He was Top Drawer Soccer's #2 ranked player in the nation. A good thing is, he may last only a year in college. But, he's one of the few to get away from Caleb Porter. Here's a critique from ESPN Soccernet's US Youth Soccer blogger. Kudos go to Yeagley Jr for showing there is some competition in college futbol recruiting. Of course, Akron had no scholarships remaining. Quote

He was telling me that she got offers to Penn State who finished tied for first in the big ten with OSU, so i think were getting a very good recruit with her Quote

The other players are also good additions. Best recruiting class, by far. Quote
bisbee Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 Sporting Chance USA is proud to announce that one of its Men's Soccer clients; David Mayer has committed to the leading NCAA Div 1 Men's Soccer program at Akron University, Ohio. Akron can claim the leading NCAA Div 1 Men's Soccer programme for 2010, so to get an athlete into a programme of this stature is something of an achievement. Over the past few weeks, David has been considering excellent offers of scholarship from a number of top NCAA Div 1 universities, but after much deliberation decided the Akron programme was the one that would offer him the greatest challenge, both soccer wise and academically. David who comes from Cheshire was a 2-year youth scholar at Wigan Athletic FC before being released in 2009/2010. He is an outstanding left side defender and the excellent action videos he provided from Wigan Athletic, combined with our own editing facility, enabled our Marketing Consultant; John Sparks to carry out a top class marketing job for David. David will join his new team mates in August 2011 and we would like to wish him every success. We will certainly keep a keen eye on his progress at Akron. Quote

yazan07 Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 He is an outstanding left side defender... This is the position that I (not an expert) felt was going to be perhaps the biggest question mark going into next fall. Problem solved? I sure hope so. Quote

Sounds as if Sporting Chance USA is in fact based in the United Kingdom. I wonder if this youngster was a participant in the February camp at Stiles Center. Quote

Yes,it definitely is located in England and it attempts to get British kids into American colleges/universities to play sports. Quote
Z.I.P. Posted April 26, 2011 Report Posted April 26, 2011 I'm kind of surprised about this "signing", if it is indeed correct -- coming from across the pond, with no confirmation in the USA, I take it with a grain of salt, so to speak. Does anyone out there have any info that you're keeping to yourself? You can PM me if you want, I'll keep a lid on until we find out the whole truth. Meanwhile, I did find that he was a starting left back for the Wigan Athletic Youth (U-19) squad. Not sure of age, but Brit youngsters finish what we call high school at 16-17, so I guess he might be 17 or 18. He left Wigan one year ago. Here's about all I could find from the folks at Wigan. Roberto Martinez wasn't interested in taking a chance, but there's a lot of turnover in the youth ranks over there. Quote

ZachTheZip Posted May 22, 2011 Report Posted May 22, 2011 Don't know too much else about Foldesy except that he goes to St. Ignatius. Quote
Z.I.P. Posted July 28, 2011 Report Posted July 28, 2011 Well, I have to really shake my head on this one. Akron loses another player to the Tar Heels! (scroll down to bottom) And I was REALLY hopeful that our nuevo amigo, Andy would be able to come through for us on this! That's one strike against you man! Quote
