Valpo Zip Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 How exciting would it be to say that the (then) national champion is coming to play at Akron? I really doubt to see Shaka with them though. Quote
GoZips88 Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 With no football team to drain money away from athletics, why couldn't VCU ante up to keep Shaka in Richmond? Caleb Porter likes it here and wants to create his legacy in .... gasp ... AKRON! Shaka could do the same at VCU instead of becoming a journeyman coach-for-hire. Looking forward to VCU heading our way next year - led by Shaka Smart. Go Rams!!! Tempted to start an over/under thread for VCU @ Akron attendance but I'll behave . Quote
akronzips71 Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 Is that right, we play them next year? Yikes Quote
Valpo Zip Posted March 27, 2011 Author Report Posted March 27, 2011 According to Wikipedia, Shaka makes $325,000 a year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaka_Smart A very decent salary for a mid major...can they go higher? Wake or Tennessee will be calling with the 7 figures salary soon after next week end. Quote

Add all his bonuses from winning and he might pull in seven figures this year. Quote
zip37 Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 Maybe DCBALLER will keep us informed of the latest roumors. Personally, I think he will go elsewhere, I hope so because during the 2 years I spent in Tidewater, I became a ODU fan, but switched to VCU when Shaka moved there. Quote

I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing. What are the chances that a defending National Champion has to play a ROAD GAME at Akron at the start of the following season? Could you imagine the ticket demand from just the casual college basketball fans in the area? And what an opportunity for us. The last time something like this happened, we had to play #2 Pitt at the Richfield Coliseum in 1987. But, we don't have that option anymore. Quote

Playing the National Champions at the JAR next year would be awesome! Not to mention how much I want to see Shaka win this thing. Go Rams! Quote
UA Fan Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 Maybe Shaka could have a basketball camp for Roy Williams, Coach K., and Thad Motta.. Quote

Unfortunatley (or fortunately depending on how you choose to view it), guys like Caleb are the exception, not the rule. The vast majority of young coaches who achieve the kind of success that Caleb and now Shaka are having look at it as an opportunity to advance their career. Just how it is. Consider us very lucky to have a guy in Caleb who doesn't fit inside that mold. Quote

I want to see one bracket that has the #3 #4 #8 and #11 seeds in the Final 4 There were plenty of people who predicted that there was going to be a lot of surprises this year since the top teams really weren't that good. They were right. Quote
