I wondered this question as I turned passed women's world cup at noon looking for sportcenter. Do you think a men's high school team could beat a women's world cup team? What do you think the final score would be?

Apparently you went passed too quickly to discover the skills on display! :P

Not even close. Soccer is a sport where the ball can do the work for you, reducing the influence of size/speed. They would absolutely destroy a high school team.

Thanks for your guys opinions, but it is the girls soccer teams answer I would like to hear. Hopefully it would be a colorful answer, not your everyday cliche sports answer.

If you really want to know, I'll ask them that. If there is any other questions you want them to answer about their upcoming season, the stadium, etc. let me know...

i have no idea about soccer.i got into a disscussion a few years ago about the wnba champs playingst. v's state champ team with lbj.the person said there was no way a high school boys teamcould beat a women's pro team.after he finally watched st.vincent a few times on tv he changed his mind.a good high school boys b-ball team would beat a wnba team.i would not be so sure that the womens world cup team could beat a top high school socer team.how many of those women would cup players would start for the akron men's team.none.there are alott of akron soccer players who play one year, and are off to mls.how many of the women world cup players could play in the mls.none.

Actually there has been just one Akron soccer player who played a year and left for the MLS. But you're right, women could not play on the men's soccer team or in a men's professional league

Well, I don't think we'll be able to definitively answer this one, simply because Don Garber will never allow it to be answered. Could Abby Wambach play in MLS? How about Hope Solo? I think Abby would make Chivas USA a better team right now -- sheez, do they need scoring! And, she's as big as many MLS forwards, taller than Darlington Nagbe, e.g.As far as personal knowledge goes, I have seen one US Women's National Team player, two-time Olympic gold medalist Natasha Kai (now with Philadelphia in WPS) play practice and friendly games with the Hawaii women's team against older men players from the Oahu Island Soccer league -- many of whom have college experience, and Tasha more than held her own -- she was the best player on the field. Not exactly MLS caliber, but good men's ballers nonetheless. I think Tasha could compete against US minor league men's players. And I think the other USWNT players could too. And for that matter the WNBA all-stars or an Olympic team could give a team of NBA D-League players a run for their money. Would probably lose out on account of pure size, but if there were a height limit, it would be a close one.

a few years ago they had the womens b-ball team from the summer O -games scrimmage a air forcebase team.this was not the air force college.this was just a team from the air force base near where the women trained.sorry to blow your theory about the wnba, but the best women in the usa could not even beat a bunch of guys from an air foce base.

Z.I.P. I gotta disagree with you. The D-League team would run the WNBA team out of the gym. Geno Auriemma was on a radio show during UCONN's undefeated streak and they brought up a poll conducted on a local papers website. 30 percent of respoe'd lose by 50"ndents said the UCONN women's team would beat the men's team and his response was something to the effect of "30 percent of people must not be very smart."

Really Zips Nation????I thought we were better than the statements posted above.......How about:What do you feel has changed over the last 3 seasons? What do you feel are your teams biggest strengths? Weaknesses? What are your thoughts on the upcoming season? What are your favorite memories with the AK rowdies?

Thank you  ...Now I can start talking to them. I planned on previewing every athletic sport at UA before the fall semester begins, with questions from zipsnation. But if I have to wait this long to get some specific "reasonable" questions, I may not do that. I don't mind the question of the high school vs uswnt or whatever, but I need some other ones so I at least get SOME reply back. I could of went in many different directions with questions, but I wanted to know what the Zip fans wanted to know, not just one Zip fan. Apparently we have a long way to go until women's soccer gets at most ONE-FOURTH of the attention men's soccer gets. If you're a huge zip fan and not a fairweather fan(or maybe you're just sexist?), you would see that the Lady Zips are improving dramatically each year. They were 2009 MAC East champions, 2010 MAC East runner-ups(didn't lose in 2009 or 2010 to a MAC East team...2010 was 1 tie to Miami). They were getting blown out by MAC West schools in 09, but 2010 they were in just about every game til the final whistle. They took eventual regular season MAC Champs, Toledo, to 2OT, before losing 2-1 off a corner kick...Women's soccer style of play is improving as well. With the highly talented incoming freshmen class, and this year's sophomore class, I feel we can be expecting MAC titles in women's soccer like the men's team...

I agree, the team has improved each and every year. They are playing better soccer than some of the other teams that just "dump and run." I would like to hear the teams/coaches thoughts on style of play. How they feel they compare to other MAC schools both on the field and in terms of fan support, support from within the administration, etc?I look forward to the response. And I'm sure the fans, players, parents and future recruits will appreciate that as well! :)

Pardon me for getting caught up in the machismo machine someone was operating! Can you ask the rookies why they chose Akron -- particularly the (what three?) young ladies from the Las Vegas Valley. And try asking coach Pfau if he would like a future trip to the 50th state. There are people out here who could arrange that! B)

Sorry for ruining the integrity of our college athletics message board with college potty humor. I should have known there was no place for jokes and humor and fun on a message board of this caliber. I also should have thought about the fact that those athletes, my peers, would probably be appalled to hear me making jokes like that. They are after all, college kids, and we have no place for humor in college. Zipsnation, I hope you will forgive me, I hath sinned. Oh and while we're on the topic of wildly obscene remarks such as my own, if we're trying to not offend the women's soccer team, we should probably not start by asking them "so since you all are girls, you would lose to a boys high school team, right? You know, since women are athletically inferior to men." Regardless of whether or not this is a factual statement, I think that would not be well received by a women's soccer team. Okay since I have wasted so much of our precious time with my crude and uncalled for humor, I will now provide actual insightful questions. Mike, why don't you ask something to the effect of "with the success of the men's team, is there pressure to compete with them? Does their success drive you guys to work harder to match their accomplishments?" or "as female soccer players, what, if any, effect has the US Women's National Team had on you?" If you ask "What are your thoughts on the upcoming season?" you're going to get something like "I think we're going to win games" though it will be more well worded and lengthier. Hope this is helpful.
