Bracket Buster Pairing based on RPI by Home/Road teamsInteresting site that has been looking at potential Bracket Buster matchups based on current RPI's and scheduled home/away teams. I do not believe that the matchups are set strictly off of RPIs as this site indicates but it does give you an idea of potential Akron Matchups. Tough game on the road. The site was updated early this week so some things may have changed. Creighton, Wichita State, Southern Illinois ??? If Zips win on Sunday, they chould get the top game for the MAC and be one of the highlighted games on ESPN. Must beat BG first.......

KD talked about this a couple weeks ago. He made a good point. If you play a good team and win it doesn't really help you. If you lose to a good or great team, you are hurt. You need to beat a great team. Let's hope we get the toughest draw. Sure beats the woe is us mentality from the past.

By Joel Welserjwelser@collegehoops.netJanuary 28th, 2006 Bracket Buster PredictionsThis year’s Bracket Buster is loaded with talent on the side of the designated home teams. That will make for an unpredictable announcement of scheduled games come January 29th, however it may make for some less than competitive games as well. Nonetheless, I’ll take a stab at predicting what I think are fair and interesting match-ups for ESPN's Bracket Buster Saturday.Bucknell at Northern IowaThis is the cream of the crop right here and could actually bust a bracket. UNI should be in either way, but Bucknell could use another big road win to leave little doubt if they stumble heading into the NCAAs. George Mason at Wisconsin-MilwaukeeThe Colonial Athletic Association is eyeing two bids into the NCAAs. A good conference showing on February 18th is a necessity and George Mason winning on the road against a Sweet Sixteen team from a year ago would be the marquee victory.Northwestern State at Southern IllinoisThe Devils of Northwestern State have victories in Starkville and Stillwater, but if we’ve learned anything over the last few years, it is that nobody comes away from Carbondale with a win. It would be huge for the Devils and the Southland Conference, but at the least, it gives an underappreciated team like Northwestern State some much deserved television exposure.Oral Roberts and MontanaThis one might be down the list a ways according to the RPI, but these are two teams you might see in March. Both teams are currently second place in their respective conferences, but have plenty of firepower to overtake the leaders, or at least win the conference tournament. Despite an overall generally disappointing season for ORU, they still have the dynamic duo of Caleb Green and Ken Tutt, who are a must watch if this game makes it on the family of networks.Akron at Utah StateAkron may be the team to beat in the MAC and there is no better way to prove that than with a win in Logan. Utah State doesn’t have much room for error and another quality win would help out the old RPI coming down the stretch. It isn’t a must win for the Aggies, but it will be for Akron if they slip in Cleveland and still plan to have higher aspirations than the NIT. When will we hear?!?!?!?

That's a very interesting prospect, as it looks like the MAC and WAC are both destined to be one-berth leagues. Perhaps Nevada would have a 50-50 shot if they loose the WAC tourney @home.Stu Morrill's Aggies are a big, tough, but not real athletic squad. You can watch them beat up on my Rainbows on Big Monday tonight. I think our defense might be able to cause them problems. Would be a long, hard road trip for any team outside the West region. Logan is no one's idea of a holiday spot.If ESPN wants to provide a real tight contest, they can send the Zips direct to the Stan Sheriff Center Arena in Manoa (Honolulu). Please God! . UW-Milwaukee was fortunate to eak out a win here, and help themselves out last year. I think they (UW-M) won their tourney, but had a shot at an at-large.

Record-Courier reports Zips to Nevada... for Bracket BusterCan't to host Butler...Last paragraph:"The Record-Courier has learned that Can't State will host Butler University (11-8) in ESPN’s Bracket Buster series on Feb. 18. Akron will travel to the University of Nevada that same day."http://www.recordpub.com/article.php?pathT...t&article=1&tD=

Playing Nevada would be awful news for the Zips.Akron is the fifth best RPI for the fifty road teams. Evenly matched we should be playingCreighton. But, Creighton doesn't want to play us. They are arrogant and think theycan't improve their RPI by pounding our butts. This may well cut us out of any chance of a national TV game on ESPN2. Hacks me to seeAXEME crowing on the MAC boards how Can't is getting on TV. Is there any justice? We will soon learn our fate. I am not optimistic.Nevada is a good team. A really good team, there is no problem playing them. Its theseeding for TV that upsets me. We earned a shot on TV.

There is no indication that the TV schedule is set against us. The Neveda (RPI 53) matchup would a good one - They have some recent tourney success which should carry over on the TV schedule. Probably the worst thing is a trip out west during the league schedule.I can’t find any confirmation of the pairings. It's all speculation on the TV schedule and features games. I'd be surprised that one of the features would be Butler (RPI 112) out of the Horizon and Can't State (RPI 123). There are better teams and potential matchups out there.

Bad draw for the Zips. They play BG at home on the 14th of Feb. Then have to fly crosscountry to play the Nevada out there, then fly home and play Miami at Oxford on the 22nd.
I think is is a fantastic draw. I couldn't ne happier! Nevada is a great team. We have 4 days rest/practice. It will be a marquee game with national TV.If we deserve to be in the NCAA tourney, we go out there and we win. 22 wins, one being against Nevada, and we're in the big dance. Let's first beat Buffalo and Can't this week.

Dambrot made a comment on the Bracket Buster that I can't find right now to post but basically it said he wanted to play the best available home team, beating the best on the road will be great argument to get into the big tourney. Playing and beating a good team/low RPI/or at home will get you the typical MAC snub. This could be our statement game as the Captain indicated. It's a good draw and if the Zips win the next two, it will be one of the featured TV games announced on Feb 7th.

Agreed. If Akron can beat Nevada and go 8-1 or 7-2 in the MAC games, an at-large bid is in consideration. Still, I think the MAC will only get 1 team in there this year.I know Toledo played Nevada there for the Bracket Buster 2 yrs ago and it came down to the wire. I think Nevada made the tourney that year as well and I remember the ESPN announcers giving Toledo its fair share of compliments. I hope Akron gets the same treatment, only with a W in the end.

This is a good draw. A win means much more to the Zips then a loss. Also, don't forget that going to Nevada this year means they have to make a return trip to Rhodes Arena next fall for non-conference play. That is a very nice home game for the Zips to have in an arena where they rarely lose. I like it.In the meantime, can't wait for buffalo and Can't. Got my tickets for the dump known as the MACC Center yesterday. Go Zips!

Us Nevada Fans are excited to play the Roos. Akron has a decent RPI and will be a tough game and if if the Pack can win it will be a nice boost. Gary Hill-Thomas scored with under a second left to beat toledo two years ago, and then lost at Toledo on the return game. Last year Nevada beat a solid Vermont team by 10 and then beat them on the return trip this year. I look forward to the return trip next year and hope that Nevada can schedule a big name team from your area also. Good luck until the game.

I think getting 4 teams in the Bracket Buster with solid opponents is an excellent opportunity for MAC to get 2 teams in. And count me as one person who is excited to get Nevada= very well may be the 1 game on ESPN. Talking up Fazekas (sp?) and Travis/Joyce as former teammates of LeBron= ARE YOU KIDDING ME (in my best Dick Vitale impression)?Another chance at great exposere for UA!

I agree with some of your points about playing Nevada. But this may be a set-up toeliminate the Zips from at-large considerations. How do you know they will get a fairshake from the refs????
On Frenchie's show last night he mentioned that the game will have MAC officials. I also agree that this is a good draw for the team although it would have been nice to have a closer game. These are young guys and the travel should have a lot less effect on them. This may help them get ready for travel when we become :macc: !!!

Thanks for the post PackBlue. It's a great sign for our program to draw a quality team like Nevada. My buds are gonna be so psyched if we can see this game on TV. LETS GO ZIPS :screwks:
