skip-zip Posted September 27, 2011 Report Posted September 27, 2011 Did anyone else read the Beacon sports page today? It looks like the Golden Felons will be getting the pee yellow "K" logo pasted all over their helmets for accomplishing things. So, they will soon look even uglier than ever. Note to Ken+'s new coach: Bring all the Suckeye traditions you want into the Ken+ State program, and it won't change the fact that you are coaching a bunch of losers. Reward stickers might be good for 1st graders when they do well on a spelling test, but they won't turn these jokers into good football players. Quote

Point taken, but considering we don't have the wheel, we don't have much room to talk about "what makes people winners". BTW Ianello broke a long standing tradition last year. No coach in the history of the program, had ever lost to Can't their first year of coaching. If there is one other game where I will march into the office, ask for Ianello's resignation and demand a refund, its another loss to those idiots. Quote
Doug Snyder Posted September 27, 2011 Report Posted September 27, 2011 @Keener Man...you got a get a picture of a pitbull barfing...or at least a Lab. Or say your wife/girlfriend read the story and barfed if you are going to use that picture of a sweet little kity!!! Quote
Big Zip Posted September 27, 2011 Report Posted September 27, 2011 At least it is a tradition from a winning program. I woudl think the Can't football bashing would stop when they clean our clock, but it continues. I hate Can't, but i can't bring myself to bash them because i feel like an idiot. All they have to do is come on here and say scoreboard. Very weird to me. Quote

All they have to do is come on here and say scoreboard. Very weird to me. It's not that hard when.... I think we're something like 8-2 against them in the last 10 years? They haven't had a winning season in something like 20 years? They haven't been to a bowl since 1973? Why do you find it so strange to see people making fun of their pathetic history? They've kicked the crap out of us several times in recent years in basketball, and we still make fun of their basketball team too. So, making fun of their football program is pretty much a no brainer. Quote

It has been free reign on Buckeye bashing all summer long. They are a superior program and aren't our rival. I don't know when the last time Can't "cleaned our clock". It sure as hell wasn't last year. We had every opportunity to win and failed to capitalize. Not that it matters anyway. Can't bashing is a matter of principal. They call us Crackron. Incessantly. They act as if they are Ivy League and we are a community college. I will never apologize for bashing them nor should I. When I die, they can hire a George Jones impersonator to sing at my funeral... "He stopped bashing Can't today/They placed a wreath upon his door/And soon they'll carry him away/He stopped bashing Can't today." Seriously, though. We should be happy to have a hate rivalry. It's beneficial in good times and bad and there are a lot of schools that don't have one that would love to. Don't believe me? Just ask a Buffalo fan. Quote
Big Zip Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 Perhaps it is the state of our program that I'm down on and that led to my post. I have a hard time busting on Can't football when i feel like we are moving in the wrong direction. Last year's game was closer than it should have been in my mind. As for bashing OSU...I simply can't stand the arrogance of OSU and the community at large for their love them. With regard to that we are in the same boat with all programs who get no love from the media or the community. Can you imagine if Greater Cleveland loved Josh Cribbs as much as they do now when he was at Can't...it could have helped them immensely. Quote

Did you REALLY write that comment? That looks like something out of the Suckeyes own message board! The kid who has his lunch money stolen by the neighborhood bully never considers the bully his rival. When he does, he might stop getting robbed! Quote

You didn't take my comment too far out of context did you? I have no problem with anyone bashing whoever they want. My comment was simply counterpoint to the criticism of Flashbashing. However, the Buckeyes are definitely NOT our rival. Hate them as much as you want. Root against them as much as you want. But it's not a rivalry. Quote

Dave in Green Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 Rival: A person or thing competing with another for the same objective or for superiority in the same field of activity. Rivalry: Competition for the same objective or for superiority in the same field. Now, who thinks that UA and tOSU are not rivals, and that there is no rivalry between the two schools, especially in soccer where they are much closer to the same competitive level? Quote
K92 Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 I can't speak to whether or not tOSU is a soccer rival or not. I don't know how either fanbase feels and it takes two to make a rivalry. Totally irrelevant to this conversation anyway. This is a football discussion. I can't competently comment about anything connected to soccer. I think you probably realized I wasn't talking soccer, though. According to the definitions you provided, every opponent is a rival and we all know that is not true. Some teams don't have a rivalry at all. Most have one. And some have more than one. You all know what I am talking about. Does anyone consider Illinois and Northern Illinois rivals? How about Michigan and Eastern Michigan? Is Alabama/UAB a rivalry game? Of course not. My God. Quote
MDZip Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Besides we are 25-6 all time vs OSU in soccer. Not much of a rivalry there either. Quote
K92 Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Besides we are 25-6 all time vs OSU in soccer. Not much of a rivalry there either. Actually, that is probably true! But if the soccer players, coaches and fans on both sides see it as a rivalry, it probably is. Do the fans of other soccer programs recognize it as a rivalry? Quote

Actually NIU and Illinois are rivals. They absolutely hate each other. Is little brother vs. big brother a rivalry? I have scars that say it is. Little brother never has a chance for years, until the one day he finally gets one over on big brother or becomes better than big brother at something. So yes. We are rivals with OSU. Is it the Can't rivalry, no. Is it a competetive rivalry, in football no, who knows about basketball as they constantly duck us. In Soccer? No we own them. But do we get up to play them, do we care about those games a little more than vs. EMU or vs. Tennessee? Hell yes we do, because we know what a win over them means. Quote

As far as the doubts by some that it's not a rivalry because it has to be acknowledged by the other side... OSWho brought two busloads of kids up here for this soccer game. They HATE that we keep kicking their butts, their coach excuses dirty play, and there are documented cases now of fans getting nailed with balls behind the net during warmups last night. If that's not achnowledgement from the other side....I don't know what is. Quote
K92 Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Ok guys, ok. OSU is a rival in soccer. You are 100% right. I was 100% wrong for not clarifying that I was talking about football. But they still are not a rival in football, in my opinion, no matter how you slice it. If OSU and Akron are rivals in football, wouldn't that also mean that OSU and Can't would be rivals as well? Does anyone think OSU/Can't State is a rivalry game? Quote

If OSU and Akron are rivals in football, wouldn't that also mean that OSU and Can't would be rivals as well? Does anyone think OSU/Can't State is a rivalry game? I don't think there is specifically a football rivalry between the two schools. But there is definitely an overall sports rivalry. OSWho HATES the idea of losing to Akron in anything. And the way their fans react towards us when we go down there for a football game is evidence of that. I've been to a lot of Akron road football games over the years, and the behavior of OSWho fans towards us is monumentally more hostile than anywhere else. In fact, I would define my experiences in other places as "incredibly friendly" compared to my experiences in Cowlumbus. So, maybe someone needs to ask the OSWho fans that question......Why do they hate Akron people so much? Is it maybe that THEY are the ones that are making this seem like a rivalry between the two school more than we are? Quote
Blue & Gold Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Divying up a rivalry by respective sports is interesting. I'd hesitate to do that. It's just plainly evident that our main "rival" if you will (or don't use the word if you don't want to. "Competition" will do just fine.) for the hearts of Akron-area residents is Columbus. Can't is also a rival, and I'd say a more bitter rival due to familiarity, proximity and competition not just for sports-fan loyalty, but for potential student enrollment as well. (However, I'd rather someone identify w/ the suburb of Can't than with a city 2 hours away. How insulting.) But, what's also painfully clear is that very few in the Akron area have any self-respect at all. For them it's all about Columbus and/or Cleveland. Pathetic. Of course UA, courtesy of the product they've offered on the gridiron, has not helped the cause. Quote
