After going to the press conference and watching JD show tape of all 23 recruits, I will give you MY opinion of what I saw on tape of the players that made impressions on me.Sean Hakes looks awesome to me. Big and strong. JD made the comment that he has already thrown around with the guys and many are impressed with his arm already. JD made the comment that he throws on the run like Frye. He also said that Sean contacted them, not the other way around.Jerrel Stoudemire looks like a monster to me. The dude was CRUSHING everybody on tape. He destroyed the offensive line. The best part was, every tackle he made he seemed to punish the runner, hitting him hard. This dude is going to create some turnovers for us. I thought he was the most impressive on tape of the bunch.DJ Henderson looks like Plexico. He is big. 6'5. He looks like he understands how to use his height to his advantage. He also seems strong. Many catches made crossing the the middle, and once he did, he seemed to have a nose for the endzone, breaking tackles on the way. JD only had soph tape on Harvey so this may be the reason that DJ looked like our best WR to me.Aaris Reed looked fast. He looked like he could find a seem and accelerate. He looks like he has that extra gear people talk about in a running back. Seen some nice cut backs. I know that Boone was supposed to be more highly touted, but from my impression of looking at high school tape, I like Reed better.Jason Sekinger is MASSIVE. JD said he weighs 360 and is 6'9. He is the transfer from Minnesota. The tape of him was impressive. He stands out on every play. He is the guy pancaking one guy and looking for another. This dude should be fun to run behind. JD made the comment that he blocks with attitude.Igor Iveljic is the 5th rated kicker in the nation. This dude was blasting kicks. JD said we are not really going to have to worry about kick off coverage with this guy. He was blasting kicks through the endzone. One kickoff went through the uprights.Other notes:Overall of the DBs recruited, they look big and fast. JD made the comment a few times that he wanted to increase speed and size, yes that's a cliche, but from looking at tape, that is what I saw too. Delvin Davis is a HITTER. Nose for the ball carrier. Should be huge on run support. Curtis Brown played at the same high school as Santonio Holmes.Tevlin Petit-Frere had some great acceleration on tape.Mitchell Magloire tied a school record with 19.5 sacks. That's all I have written down on my sheet. Remember these are just my impressions from watching 40 minutes of tape. It really doesn't mean anything. Just thought I would share with you guys.complete list from gozips

I was at the press conference and Dr Z has given a great recap of the newest class. They are big fast and all seem to have an aggression problem on the field. I think Coach Brookhart and his staff have nicely addressed the needs form the graduating class and now has 3 deep positions all over the field. Should be an interesting season. :macc:

Depth is what oftentimes separates us from our "bigger" opponents. I think, as stated by UADavid, that this is what will make a difference.Go Zips!!
I have to respectfully disagree. What makes us different from our "bigger" opponents is our size. Akron needs bigger players, not just more of the same.

Have you looked at this class? Size and speed. Depth is key and with these quality recruits that's exactly what the staff has brought into the program. At least Coach Brookhart said depth was key. Maybe he was wrong? I don't think so! :macc:

my sleeper is mike ward, ol 6-3 300. on the tape, this kid could move and had great size. you could even see the definition of muscles in his arms .he didn't appear to be 300 soft pounds to me. from his bio he appears to have smarts too. watchout for the best o-line in the mac in two years. kemme, anderson, jackson, ward, bates.....derron smith at linebacker is going to be tough too. damn, this class has tons of potential!! :macc:

I actually agree with you. We need both size and speed. My point was not that we just need more good players, we need size on the team. I assumed that you meant "bigger" as in Penn State, OSU, etc. Without size, we will never be able to compete against those teams because if all we do is run out one undersized player after another, we can't win. Depth wouldn't matter at that point.
