a-zip
This should be interesting, we are extremely deep in the offensive backfield. Obviously, the guys need to get on the field and show their stuff but does anyone have any insight or opinion on how these battles will play out.QBGetsy - incumbentJackson - top recruit from last yearJacquemain - I hear he was a nice sleeper from last yearHakes - the videos look spectacular and he is enrolled alreadyRBAlex Allen - top RB recruit from last yearDennis Kennedy - looks strongAndre Boone - one of the highest rated recruits everAaris Reed - everything I have read about him spells gamebreakerIt is nice to have the depth
Ryno aka Menace
This basically breaks down into 2 catagories 1. offensively - we will have some dept at key positions for a change, competition for improved play which in turn puts the best person on the field, and maybe even a nice rotation to keep a fresh back in the game (see philadelphia eagles of last year),. 2. Postion move - someone is going to get moved to DB or WR. Point being it really don't matter what the outcome is we are getting more quality skill positions....it is better to have some decisions than no choice! gozips19
i'd say qb 1 luke, 2 c j 3 chris 3a hakes with possibly jacquemain going to wide outrb 2 kennedy 2 boone 3 reed ......maybe holly (if he comes here) as a justin king type player?i think you guys are right though it is a good problem to have!GO ZIPS! InTheZone
By fall:QB- 1. Getsy 2. Jacquemain 3. Hakes (redshirt)RB- 1. Kennedy 2. Allen/Boone 3. McMillon 4. Reed (redshirt)Carlton Jackson will be given at opportunity at QB in the Spring much like Jabari Arthur but will help shore up the WR corps in the fall. He's too much of an athlete to sit on the bench at QB.
UADavid
It's going to be awfully fun watching the spring and summer practices. Depth at most positions with quality recruits and returning players. It doesn't get any better than that. :macc:
Quickzips
Here is how I think it goes for next year.QBstarter- Getsy: This is pretty much a given. 2nd string- Jaquemain: A year experience in the system gives him the nod over Hakes.3rd string- Hakes: Young and raw, will need some time to develop but will have that time after a redshirt year.Jackson realizes that he isn't going to see playing time at QB here, or really anywhere in IA for that matter and transfers either to IAA as a QB or to a BCS school as a QBRBstarter- Kennedy: I think the coaching staff is most familiar with him and he looked good in the time he got this year.second string- Reed: Reed will pickup second string because of his game breaking ability.third string- Allen/Boone: These two likely won't see much playing time. liljc
My best guess is that Jackson will be the back-up qb this season and Jacquemain will move over to help out the wr corp. He was a nice wr in high school. That means that in '07 it will be Hakes and Jackson fighting it out, or rotating or whatever the competition decides. Depth creates competition, and that's a great thing to have. :macc:
fear the brown roo
i think you're making a big mistake if you count jackson out. he has good size, great quickness and a laser for an arm. which other qb was recruited by a big ten school (michigan state)? none. Quickzips
At least one of these guys is going to have to convert to WR or DB more than likely. I just think that with Jacksons reasoning for choosing Akron in the first place over places like Michigan State (he wanted to play QB not be converted to DB) that he would be the one most likely to cut in run when faced with that potential. As much as I hate to say it I don't think Jackson is going to finish his career in a Zips uni.

Jackson has the versatility to play reciever or safety and doesn't have the arm strength our other QB's have. He'll end up at reciever or he'll transfer. Mich St recruited him to play a skill position. He came to Akron under a promise from JD that he'd get his shot at QB. Which he will, and then he'll either go to a skill position or go elsewhere. gozips19
i agree that jackson has all the tools.....you heard j.d. in the press conference yesterday....the reason we got all of these recruits from fl. is that he came here. he was one of the best qb's in south fl!!!!! i know that we are pumped about hakes but but will get their time in the sun with jackson as a 3 year starter and hakes as a 2 year starter. and Jacquemain isn't real fast but could become a thrid down type for the teamGO ZIPS! TXZipFan
To be honest I think Chris will be moved to linebacker, and Carlton will stay at QB and back Hakes up in 2007. Where Carlton will also get time playing at slot-back. Getsy will do a good job this year and teach Hakes the pocket presence and leadership skills for the team, and Hakes will begin his journey in 2007. Carlton will have NFL potential at WR not QB, I think he'l realize that after spring ball.

Can you make the assumption he is happy with his future here because I agree, the three youngsters at QB are not going to want to sit on the bench. fear the brown roo
i always thought jacquemain could play anywhere on the field except the lines. a great athlete, i can see him as the john mackey type. this kid has to be on the field somewhere, anywhere. hard to say, he could our starting qb in a year or starting rover. hell, i wonder if he can punt too? :macc:
Beanie 4 Heisman
My best guess is that Jackson will be the back-up qb this season and Jacquemain will move over to help out the wr corp. Ok well you have never seen CJ throw the ball. His arm stregnth is insane. he flicks his wrist and the ball goes 60 yards on a rope. He has the strongest arm out of all of the qbs here. QB. 1. Getsy2. CJ3. HakesRB.1. Kennedy/Allen split time but allen will end up playing more. 3. McMillon. i think reed boone and reed will get redshirted. unless one of them comes in and is really ready to start.
Quickzips
Beanie you may want to distinguish which CJ, Carlton Jackson or Chris Jaquemain. I assume you are meaning Jaquemain but not 100% sure.
liljc
Hey Beanie, Quickzips thinks you're talking about "CJ" Jacquemain...I think you're refering to "CJ" Jackson....Which is it?
zipsbandman
Gotta have all the facts huh quickzips? Are you a political scientist or something? ;)I think he means Carlton
Quickzips
Hey, I was just pointing out that the two QB's have the same initials. Not all of us can be biomedical engineers.
gozips19
if he wasnt talking about chris jackson's (cj) arm then he should have. he has a rocket for a arm and is as fast if not faster than our running backs! the kid has game. Jacquemain will have to finds another pos. or become a back up and that isn't a bad thing. i am pumped that we are even having this debate. a few years ago we wouldn't be talking about this because we had no depth.GO ZIPS! RobC2
I haven't seen any film on Carlton Jackson, but I'm guessing he's a Willie Spencer type of athlete (I'm showing my age! Wille was a QB from Massillon, say, oh, about 8 years ago?) And Chris Jacqumaine (sp?) - don't know anything about him at all! I followed recruiting last year and was still clueless about him. Just thought he must have been an add-on player. But I agree that it is great to even be able to have this debate!!! Luke Getsy is definitely the man next season, that's a no brainer. The video on Sean Hakes looks absolutely amazing!!! He is like a man among boys in his video highlights, just simply tearing it up!!! But I've got faith in JD and he's still high on Carlton Jackson, so I'm excited to see what he does in the Blue-Gold Game! Thus, my uneducated opinion:1. Getsy2. Jackson3. Hakes4. Jacqumaine5. John FergusonGood grief! What depth!!!Go Zips!

RobC2
Ah. Good move for him. Better to play somewhere than sit the bench.
RobC2
Now that I think about it, he could have transferred to Toledo and started!!! Better to start at Toledo than be 5th string at Akron!!!
