mes102 Posted October 9, 2011 Report Posted October 9, 2011 All I have to say is that, if you haven't seen the Lady Zips at all this year, you have at least 3 more chances(maybe 4 if you count the @Can't match) to see them in action. Of course, it may not be as exciting as the men's team because of the style they play and being nationally ranked in top 5 ; however, the Lady Zips don't play just your ordinary "kick the ball around until we get a lucky bounce" type of soccer. They too, try to play a possession type style of play. The problem is that it's not executed as well as the men's team, but you can't fault the women's team for that. Give them a chance. Not saying if you saw them last year or in 2009, that you don't have to see this team. If you haven't seen this team at all this season, you must see them before season's end. They had a lead in the Toledo tie and Ball State loss, and they had chances to win in the Western Michigan loss and Central Michigan tie. They've beaten Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan, the schools they should of beaten. This team is for real. If a few bounces went their way, they could easily be 6-0-0 right now... The MAC East is much easier to get wins than the MAC West. For us to have a chance to win each game in the MAC up to this point, tells us that we should go 5-0-0 in MAC play. Ohio may be the one team that gives us trouble. If we play down to our opponents, Buffalo and Can't State might give us trouble. Don't count out Miami(OH) either. But the Lady Zips are in good shape to at least get the #2 seed in the MAC if they win the division. Worse case scenario, #4 seed wouldn't be far off. Here's your chances: 10/14/11 7:30pm vs Bowling Green 10/16/11 1:00pm vs Miami(OH) 10/21/11 4:00pm at Can't State 10/27/11 3:00pm vs Ohio Quote
mes102 Posted October 9, 2011 Author Report Posted October 9, 2011 Another important part, which is that this state is highly talented in high school girl's soccer players. We are now 1-0-1 against other Ohio schools this year. Be crucial as we go along. I know that it's starting to make a difference, as I heard a couple weeks ago from Coach Pfau on Zips Live say that this upcoming recruiting class is more localized than in the past few recruiting classes... ZachTheZip Posted October 9, 2011 Report Posted October 9, 2011 As far as recruiting in-state, there's a bias that the coaches have had to fight since the program's inception. It's slowing fading away thanks to the facilities and the publicity the men's team generates, but it's still there. Akron (both the University and the Women's Soccer program) is regarded more positively out of the state than within our own city and region. Only winning the MAC and making the NCAA tournament can change that. Quote

And winning is no guarantee of change. Which brings up another side question (related to the attendance thread): Are we seeing license plates from outta state at our games (men's primarily)? I know that much of the attendance at Col Crew games comes from out of state -- is that happening in Akron? Quote

acstorfer Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 I moved to south Florida recently, fairly close to USF. I was devastated when I found out the day after, the lady Zips were at South Florida. I certainly wish I went to support them. Well, USF men's soccer has some steam going. Maybe somehow the stars will align and somehow a tournament match will host the men's Zips here. Of course if that happens things can't be going good for Akron. Okay, I have no idea how that will be possible, but I really want an excuse to be loud and rowdy for Akron here in south Florida! Quote
