OU Game

Great point. It DOES tell the players that you've given up. And inexperienced coaches would tend to make such mistakes. A TD was the only way to still give us a chance to win the game. I still can't imagine what he may have been thinking, other than possibly wanting to say we put a few more points on the board. But, players want to win games.
You saw it at K.e.n.t. last year: 30 seconds to go until halftime, in the red zone, with THREE time outs remaining...and he centered the ball for a field goal. The guy doesn't know what it takes to win a football game.
Here, here. Uncle Tom assured me just yesterday that there would be noevaluation of icoach until he completes his fourth year.Dare I say that Zip football will be dead and buried by then?

We do stink. I always enjoyed going to Akron U football games for many years and I would take my 3 boys. This is like torture because we simply cannot compete. I have gone to 4 games the last 2 years and seen 3 blowouts losses and a loss to Gardener Webb. Our defense cannot stop the pass or run. O U had over 500 yards in total offense. Our safeties are 20 yards off the line of scrimmage but when their receiver did a hitch and go they were nowhere to be found. We had almost no pressure on the quarterback and he picked us apart by scrambling when there was pressure. The coaches calls were suspect when he runs the ball twice being down 20 points and when he has 3rd and one he passes the ball and it goes incomplete. Our only cometitive touchdown was set up by a comical lateral turnover that nobody could pick up and then an Akron player took it down to the 6 yard line where we finally scored on fourth down. Our offense cannot maintain a touch down drive. Our running back did not attack the holes but seemed to go wide on almost every play till the 3rd quarter. He was ineffective the 1st half but seemed to do better the 2nd half. It is sad watching people leave after the half and during the 3rd quarter. The fans around me were disgusted by the lack of competance with this team. The kickoff returner dropped the ball twice and several times we started our drive from our own 15 or worse. Our receivers had several nice catches but their routes were not very crisp. The best catch of the day was a one handed grab by the OU receiver. After we scored to make it 23-10 I was hoping the we would try on onside kick. It was our only hope since our defense could not stop their offense. We kicked it away and they shoved the football down our throat. I finally left when they were on our one yard line and it was third and one. We used a four man front and the safeties and linebacker were 5 yards in our end zone. It was an eay score with a run right up the middle. I was done.It is difficult being an optimist but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Basketball season!
Three observations you made are very interesting. 1)Chisholm wants to run 'East--West' more than 'North-South'. The coaches must be talking to him. There were times when he at least tried to cut it up. But he doesn't get his paids squared often enough to avoid losses. Reminds me a little of the way Dennis Knnedy ran when he first got here. But boy did he figure it out. 2) The defense just gave up tons of yards when OU ran right at them. There was nobody on the line or at linebacker plugging holes at the line. The OU O-line was getting on the linebackers and smothering them. 3) There was little pressure on the QB. Part of that is because Tettleton knows when to get rid of the ball and how to move behind the line. Akron was and has been trying to blitz. But, its hard for bitzters to get pressure when the DB's are playing 5-7 yards off the receivers. The QB has plenty of room to dump the ball. Heard an ex-coach talking about that. He said you have to play press coverage and make the QB hold the ball a little longer. Problem is when your secondary is getting toasted its tough to do.Find it interesting as Gaffney points out that in the middle of the second season the coach hase decided to start changing up his offensive scheme.

Two excellent evaluations, back to back. These assessments are good enough for the coaching staff to ponder.Well written, both of you.

If this is true, TW should be shown the door. There should be weekly evaluations of performance. If true, this shows me that TW can make the easy (stupid) decision of suspending a coach who had a MINOR violation, but he can't make the big decisions. If true, he can make the easy decision of hiring a friend, but can't make the hard decision to fire a friend; or even worse, to question the decision making of a friend. He can make the easy decision to cancel a golf outing, but...I have no idea where I'm going with this one....something to do with things that don't really matter.....anyhow....Akron football may be dead and buried by then? It might be dead already and the rotting corpse is stinking up the joint. I'm serious. We don't even compete well against MAC schools. 20 points in a college football game is unacceptable. At the pace we are going, the Zips will score 198 points this season. More than last year, but less than 20 per game. They give fans nothing to cheer about. When the most fun people have is at the tailgate, there is a huge problem with the program. The real problem is there isn't anyone around to smell the rotting corpse...How many people were at the game to smell it?
