Porter to coach U-23's

Recommended Posts

Yaz, did Porter try that in one of the scrimmages in a previous camp? If I remember correctly, I don't think it worked out to well. But maybe that has changed.

I think you may be right. Gatt has played RB for Molde though, and I think Porter probably wants to give him another shot there. I've heard Gatt is better as an attacking player, but as we know what Porter wants out of an RB is basically a winger who can defend a little. To me, this team has three really good wingers with a lot of pace and skill; Gatt, Gyau, and Shea. If you can play Gatt at RB and put Shea on the left wing and Gyau on the right wing, I think you have a pretty dangerous attack. Hopefully Porter agrees with me.

You're right about the talent on the wings. The midfield overall is the clubs most skillful and crowded position. Not a bad thing. I think Porter's most difficult position to declare a starter will be at Goalkeeper. Johnson and Hamid have both looked good, but I think Hamid will get the nod. Can't go wrong either way.

No slip ups and this team should be on its way to London. El Salvador will be the toughest opposition in our group. Mexico will get better, but I'd still like to stay away from playing them in the Semis

I guess we won't get to see Gatt at all. Molde recalls Gatt

:mad_flame: I just wanna see this kid play! He didn't get to participate in a few other camps because of an injury, and now this? I was really looking forward to the possibility of him playing right back and Joe Gyau at right wing. Oh well, Kofi probably still gets the start which is good for him.

BigSoccer qualifying podcast featuring TDS's Travis Clark

Olympic qualifying podcast with Zarek and Perry

Both good listens. One focuses more on Porter's tactics and what we can expect from this team in qualifying, the other focuses on how bad Kofi Sarkodie is at basketball. I won't spoil the surprise and I'll just let you guys figure it out.

This Thursday kicks off Olympic Qualifying. The journey to Gold begins. The Group Stage matches are on Universal Sports Network if you're watching from home. AO Akron is hosting the watch parties at Manny's Pub. Game will be on a few televisions with March Madness on the others. I'm not a basketball guy myself, but I know many others are. Here is the US Qualifying Match Schedule or the FB Event Pages. Either way, hope to see everyone there and again when Porter and company reach the Semi-Finals.

Yaznasty and bobbyake will be bringing the ruckus. Join them at Manny's! I'll be in Nashville for the first two matches, but back for Monday's match against El Salvador.

Backs against the wall now. US pretty much has to win Monday to advance. I doubt that Cuba draws or defeats Canada.

Edit: Canada 2, USA 0

I guess Agudelo tore meniscus in his knee against Cuba. He's done and headed back to NY tomorrow (according to ESPN). Bunbury looked lost and cost US a goal being offside (lined up that way) on a corner kick.
