Captain Kangaroo
Signed a whopping 14 kids? Wow...that'll turn around a program that went 0-10 vs D 1A competition last season! Their "stud" QB recruit threw from....sit down....you won't believe it....400 yards in his senior season!! He's projected to compete for their starting job in 2006 Their coach took a truely hilarious swipe at Akron saying he'd wants to forge relationships locally rather than go to the "quick fix" of recruiting Florida. Good luck getting those 4.4 40 LB's out of Mogadore and Brimfield, pal!! If we don't beat those clowns buy 40 next year I'll be embarrassed. What a pathetic pile of crap. zen
Their coach took a truely hilarious swipe at Akron saying he'd wants to forge relationships locally rather than go to the "quick fix" of recruiting Florida. There's a lot of great talent in this state (just ask OSU who recruited pretty heavily from Ohio), but that comment sounds more like sour-grapes/penis-envy than it did a genuine criticism. I promise you that if Can't could have signed the players that Akron did, they would. But they couldn't. They are just frustrated. It's tough for one mac team to recruit in a region where big10 gets the cream, let alone two. They cant catch a break because of a catch22, IE, if you are doing bad, you can't recruit. If you can't recruit, you can't turn things around.Frustration talking.
liljc
Northeast Ohio is one of the most heavily recruited areas in the entire country. All the big boys are here. Charlie Weis said last week that national championships are won by recruiting in this area. That being said, you have to be smart about who you are getting. Like Brookhart and his crew have been. This area is very picked over and you've gotta be able to determine who can play ball and who will just take up space on a roster. That's the difference between Can't's class and Akron's class. Let them try to spin it any way they want , but in the end we'll be winning championships, going to bowl games and playing on national tv, and the will just be another story about a team with a long winless streak. Be patient, keep winning and we'll get our share of the local kids, I am sure of it. :macc:
fear the brown roo
from what that crack newspaper the beacon reported, it didn't seem like too much of our local talent got div 1A scholarships this year as opposed to previous years. i think this was a down year for the locals. i know being all-city series in akron doesn't mean what it did 20 years ago. when the talent is here, JD will find it, don't worry. :macc:
gozips19
poor facilities, porr fan base, poor team, Can't is a graveyard for coaches i'd rather take the ub job at least what little fans they have there seem to care about the programGO ZIPS! Quickzips
Not only that but Buffalo actually seems to WANT to get better. Can't says they want to get better but when you hear them say it and look at what they have done it sounds a lot like someone is twisting their arm and saying "tell the nice people you want a better football team." There isn't any real commitment too it.BTW: Cap'n can you get me a link to those senior season stats for their "stud QB" recruit. I gotta see that one for myself. br30302004
Thanks for bringing that statement up Captain. Does anyone remember the Can't spin last year on recruiting? The coaches from UA and Can't were somewhat being questioned about not taking a lot of local kids. The Can't Coach said basically "Just because they play football in the area" we should not feel obligated to offer a scholarship and there are 117 other Div 1 programs that passed on them".His statement this year smells of "envy". I thought the quick fix to a program would be to go the JUCO route, not recruiting top 100 kids from out of state..I am starting to see why a football consultant was brought in...lolAs one UA Coach said to a friend of mine .. "We don't consider them a challenge whatsoever in recruiting, we pretty much own them".
Balki Bartokomous
but Can't picked up a 4 star punter. 4 stars! They are at least smart enough to recruit in the area they will be using the most. I'm sure their recruiting pitch went like this Can't: "ok son, listen up. We suck. Hard. But at the same time you will be the most used punter in the nation. There won't be another team in Div 1A that can compete with how many times you will be used. Now that Temple is in the MAC, there is another crap team that will beat us up, so you wont have to worry about their punter. You will lead the nation in total punt yards. How can you not when you will average 20 punts a game?"Punter: "thats fine and all, but can I be a hippie?"Can't: "Of course! We are an entire college based on being hippes. Down with war, legalize weed, all that good stuff."Punter: "Great! But i can't sign a letter of content, I dont know how to write."Can't: "Shoot, we were hoping you would know how, cause we also can't write. or read ... or even evaulate talent for that matter. Oh well, just put a mark on this line, and welcome to Can't!"
