I thought the team lost a little focus in the second half, but I also believe the Ref in the middle was horrible. I'm not sure what was called to give NW the penalty kick because nobody fell down and it seemed like everyone was bunched up where he called the foul. Prior to that Mattocks was taken down in the box (there was a huge divot where he was taken down) and the referee called it out of the box. Finally, with the game coming to a close (couple minutes to go) Mattocks turns with the ball and right in front of the ref is pushed down with both hands.....no card! In bounds ball...different guy and Mattocks is pushed to the ground again with no card.

Glad to see the team keep their composure - - would love to see more attacking, but seemed like a good win. Northwestern didn't seem very good either and were very sore losers.

Wow! After last Friday's game I was feeling a bit down about this team. Now I feel completely different. I expected them to win, but not in this dominating fashion. All the guys played great today. True team effort.

Scottie: Finally got off his drought and scored a nice goal.

Quinn: Great game and great goal. Perfect placement with his shot. I have a feeling he'll really come into his own next year.

Mattocks: Nice goal and great hustle all game. No complaints here about his effort tonight. Also, I don't recall an offside against him.

Holmes: Solid game. Shot one off the crossbar on a great volley.

Trapp: What can I say about him? This kid is everywhere and always hustles. Probably my favorite player on this team.

Gallego: I'm really starting to like him out of the holding mid position. Does some nice things there.

Yedlin: Dude runs like a deer. His pace is explosive on the attack yet allows him to get back and cover. Great player.

Balogun: Solid down the left side. Wouldn't mind seeing him stay there for the remainder of the tourney. Partnered with Barson & Dagilis the Zips are able to hold there own on set pieces now.

Dagilis: Wasn't in favor of the move to start him, but now it's paying off. Once again, Porter knows what he's doing.

Barson: The rock of the defense.

Meves: Made some great saves, but needs to learn to punch the ball away better. There was one play in the first half where I was having flashbacks to the failed clearance that set up Barson's goal line clearance last year in the final.

The ref in this game was garbage. Absolutely horrible. That PK was one of the worst calls I've ever seen. There was grabbing going on on both sides when the players went up for the ball. Definitely nothing PK worthy.

This team can win another title if they play like this all tournament. Go Zips!

First off, I am glad my prediction was wrong.

This was the most biased officiating I have witnessed. The referee literally tried

to give the game to Northwestern. NU was awarded free kick after free kick; some

at point blank range.

I had a clear view of the take down in the box. It happen right in front of me

as I was just behind the chain link barrier and directly looking at the foul. Other

than the players I probably had the best look at the foul and where it occurred.

It was absolutely in the box. The referee who was 25 yards off pointed to

just outside the box. The AR/linesman was nearly as close to the foul in the box

as I was. He could have and should have over ruled the referee.

But, it was apparent from the start that the officials were determined to award the

game to Northwestern.

In the sequence of events leading up to the PK a corner kick was awarded to NU.

This kick came from the north east corner and resulted in a second corner kick

from the south east corner. This second corner kick was headed out of bounds

by #20 of Northwestern. The AR had a clear look at it and awarded NU a

third corner kick. This corner kick was headed and bounced a couple of times

in the melee in the middle.

A PK was awarded to NU for God knows what reason as no one in the area saw

any sort of a foul. All this happening right in front of me.

Tom Wistrcill has the duty to submit the video tape of this game to the NCAA.

And, request a written explanation for the obvious bias the officials displayed

throughout the game.

i reached out my hand and shook the head ref's hand as he exited the playing field and then sarcastically said "that was the best officiated game I've seen here all year...you suck".

Though to be honest, those calls were bad but it didn't affect how we played. We bounced back every time and kept the pressure up. If we play like that every game, we will win 99% of them.

Attendance was not very good and even worse after halftime. Its very very cold. Wind in the face.

Every year my business partner's family and my family go to a OSU game. He and his daughter are graduates from OSU graduate (daughter is a recent graduate). We get a condo and spend the week in Columbus. John, his daughter and I made the 2+ hour trip from Columbus to Akron to watch the game (and to drop off GRE results for his daughter's grad school application). He lives in Florida and was only wearing long shorts, hoodie and canvas jacket. We sat the whole game in the reserve section. So please…if an OSU grad can sit in that cold wearing shorts…I think an Akron student/alumni/fan should have been able to handle the weather.

Drove up from Columbus with some friends to watch the game. My impressions from the game:

1. We lost the ball on lots of errant passes. Especially during the second half.

2. We do not often regain possession when Meves kicks the ball to midfield. Why??

3. The attendance was much smaller than expected. And quieter. No band to blame. I made the trip because I was impressed by the email from CP. It was a 4.5 hour round trip for me.

4. Holmes is a monster in tight space. It opened up at least 3 opportunities. Like how he played today.

5. Referees were very inconsistent. Most of the bad calls went against the Zips…but a few went our way. I would prefer a well called game and let the chips fall where they may.

It was a great experience. My friend and his daughter loved the game and they are OSU grads. Liked it when the students on the hill started the ZI PS chant…and I tried to get my area involved out of respect for mes102 and the other Rowdies here. Wish there was more chanting…it does make the game and culture unique.

Go Zips

I saw tha the NU coach thought this game was worthy of a Sweet 16 or Elite 8 matchup and the RPIs are not what they are made out to be for these two teams.

I hope he's right because I didn't come away terribly impressed with NU. With that in mind, if it is because our guys just were that much better last night then may be in for a nice ride!
