Valpo Zip Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 For the last few weeks, every body has been talking about the attendance issue and especially student attendance at home games. I personally attended all home games this season in addition to some away ones (@ ohio, @ BG, @ CSU and obviously @ Can't). The only reason why i am making this post is that i sincerely want the best possible college basketball experience at my beloved school. I know that the AD and his team and some students who are employed by the Ath. Dep. are trying hard and i do respect what they do and appreciate their efforts but it seems that they do not respect what we as die hard ak-rowdies are doing...In the meeting (Friday @ 6pm), the word was to be there early @ 2pm and to bring signs (since we are on nat. TV), and to be as loud as possible.20 hours later, (Saturday) @ 2pm, i was at the door, JAR's backdoor, a bunch of other people were also there and we were not allowed in because the doors will be open @ 3pm !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we stood there for an hour wondering why would they tell us to come early if they won't let is in but oh well !The worst part happened when i was holding a sign during a time out and a police man came and told me to give him the sign. Very shocked and surprised, i asked him to read it to see that there is no obscenity or bad words in it and he said that he agrees that it is a clean sign but he still has to take it because:" SIGNS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THIS BUILDING" I tried to explain to him that people have signs all the times and that the ak-rowdies leaders are the ones who asked us to make them but it was a hopeless case. The man was very polite and he kept saying that he is sorry and that these are not his rules etc... so i surrendered my sign. I guess that i was lucky that i had to deal with the nice policeman while the other one who came to take away other people's signs was yelling and threatening people that he will kick them out. :unsure:My point, plain and simple, if you want students to come, make them feel welcome and respected. Don't tell people to come early and leave them standing at the door. And then if you ask people to make signs (which makes sense) don't send cops to take it away from them and threaten them of being kicked out.Peace out ! Quote
zip37 Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 Could be worse-- years ago cops in CLE Convention Center tried to kick a few of us out of an Akron /CSU game for MAKING NOISE . But your point is well made-- if you want the Rowdies to back the team CHANGE THE STUPID RULE!!!! Bureaucrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????????????With ball ammunition lock and load. Quote
fear the brown roo Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 rowdies still did a nice job. i liked that cat dressed up as o'shea with the snicker bars plastered to his shiny head. now that was funny. Quote
Steuby_UAkron Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 The one cop almost kicked out a guy on the south for a sign on a piece of scratch paper saying "Fear The Roo". Funniest thing is when the cop asked him to walk with him outside the doors to talk with him, on the way out the kid told him that he was "infringing on his Constitutional rights." Never heard someone actually use that in person, lol.Doors are opening for the K-ent game at 10:30 next Saturday. Other than this game we can never expect to get into the arena prior to an hour before tip-off. Quote
gozips19 Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 i did see that police man taking away sings.... that wasn't very cool and really not cool if you were asked to bring sings to the game!!! you rowdies keep doing your thing and the brass and the university will catch up Quote
zip37 Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 Butreaucrats NEVER catch up on rheir own-- keep poresing to get rid of stupidity. Quote
Dale Carnegie Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 You have to realize that these are the same university cops that love to bust 20 year olds for underage drinking. You'll notice on friday and saturdays that those university cops are more interested in getting students in trouble than anything else. I have no respect for the pigs. Why does it seem like they're all on power trips? Quote

Why does it seem like they're all on power trips? That's their job (busting students). Busting adults is for the city cops. What do you expect? 24/7 donut eating contests on taxpayer $$$?Your pigs comment makes me wonder if you should enroll to K ent (assuming you don't already go there) Quote
Valpo Zip Posted February 27, 2006 Author Report Posted February 27, 2006 I have no respect for the pigs. Why does it seem like they're all on power trips? Wow ! Wow ! Wow ! hold your horses man ! I do not have a problem with the cops doing their job, for sure some of them are more classy and respectful than the others but in any case, i do not want to immagine a campus without a police department. My problem last Saturday was not with the cops, because the cops do not make the rules, they only enforce them... what's pissing me is that the athletic department people made a decision that the signs should go down and asked them to take our signs away. The athletic department people are those same people who ask us to make signs and be there early and they keep wondering why people don't show up for games and how can we have a better student section !!! Steuby_UAkron Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 Today, I recieved an e-mail from Matt Newhouse about the K-ent game and MAC tournament tickets. At the bottom of the e-mail was the sign policy for the lower AK-Rowdy sections behind the baskets...All signs allowed in the student section must adhere to the following guidelines:Contain no profanity or lewd suggestions; Contain no obscene drawings or photography; Be in generally good taste with regards to the opponent; and Must contain a PRO-AKRON message in accordance to the Sportsmanship Policy of the Mid-American Conference. The policeman on the south side took away two signs that said "Fear The Roo". As far as I know, that doesn't break any of the rules. Hopefully the Athletic Department won't drop the ball again and screw the students over. I don't blame the policeman that took away the signs, they believed they had to do it. Quote
FearTheRoo Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 I don't blame the policeman that took away the signs, they believed they had to do it. Someone needs to clarify this prior to Can't game. Quote
zippyrifle32 Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 i don't know...on one of the message boards they (Can't) were talking about making a bunch of little signs that would form one big screw the roo covering an entire section. i know, i know, unoriginal, but i'll find it humorous if they actually try it and get theirs taken away as well Quote

I'm pretty sure my one dollar would mean early retirement. Quote

I still don't understand the screw the roo thing. Guess beastiality just isn't my cup of tea. Quote
Dr Z Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 When I was sitting behind the hoop some odd years ago, I had a referee (Mr Clean looking guy)tell me he was going to kick me out for yelling at the opposing team trying to inbound a pass next to me.I wasn't cursing or anything. Back then, I was the only one yelling though.PS Z-Pouch brought up a good point when we were sitting at BW3's the other day.Can some of you Rowdies complain about the lack of Akron paraphernalia in that place? It's right next to the campus, put up a fear the roo poster or something. A logoed bar sign.I crappy mirror with a roo on it. Make it look like an AKRON bar. There is not one sign of the Zips anywhere. Quote
