TheTank123
No inside info on this one, but it looks like Derschang might be transferring to Akron. Some evidence: 1. Tweet he was visiting Akron: https://twitter.com/#!/RobbieDerschang/...655811764957185 2. Mention on an SMU forum that his facebook said he was visiting Akron (youll have to trust me on this one) 3. He's no longer on the 2011 roster even though kids who got DRAFTED are still there. Zach Barnes is also missing and was rumored to be transferring. I can't really see the kid coming to Akron other than to check out the campus/facilities, doesn't seem like a normal spring break destination for a 20 year old from SMU. Thoughts? yazan07
Probably just touring for fun. I'm sure Aodhan Quinn took a tour of Akron at some point last year too... Also, I saw your thread on BigSoccer about this, and you say Dillon Serna has been playing LB for Rapids? That's awesome news. When I heard he was a left footed player, I wasn't sure what Porter had planned for him, seeing as we already have a left footed winger in Quinn. I didn't know if he planned on having a talent like him coming off the bench, and I thought maybe he would use one inverted winger and one on the left, and I thought about the possibility of Serna playing LB. Really hope to see that happen. Also, don't know much about Derschang, but is he a starter for us or a depth guy? Does anyone think maybe Tommy will start? I like the energy he brings off the bench but also think he has earned a starting spot. Would be sweet to see a lineup of: --Schmidt/someone----Koroma---------------Quinn------- ----------------Trapp---------------Caldwell---------------- ---------------------------Gallego--------------------------- -------Serna-------Barson-----Souders-------Yedlin---- ----------------------------Meves------------------------- So much talent in that starting XI. Then we still have Brenes, Stevenson, Portillos, and whoever else coming off the bench.

He did say that the was one of the better players he faced all year (Luis Silva being the best) and that he could absolutely play for Akron in a starting role. He likened him to a Cristiano Ronaldo type player, even saying that his running style was the same. In that same convo he said that the starting XI for spring (or at least the "first team" in practice) has been: ------Stevenson(I think)-------------Schmidt---------------Breines------ ----------------------------------Quinn------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------Caldwell----------------- ------------------------------------Trapp----------------------------------- ----Portillos (I think)-----Barson-----Gallego--------Yedlin-------------

DeAndre was raving about the work Schmitt is putting in up top.

Z.I.P.
Robbie is an Akron-type player. He's very gifted physically and skill-wise, can play either on the wing or in center mid. He's a former Bradenton residency member. And Yves Galercep had him on his 2012 MLS draft board because of all these indications of long-term potential. Another guy who can judge long range potential is named Caleb Porter. Good find. Welcome aboard. He should get along with his fellow Coloradan, Serna. yazan07
Couldn't immediately find a good thread to put this in, and I didn't feel like looking for the right one or starting a new one. I guess I chose this one cause we're talking about our midfield and wing depth for the coming year: Dillon Serna Stars in U18 National Team Game Going along with that article is this tweet from JR Eskilson: For Akron fans: Serna does not like LB at all. I doubt he is the solution for the Zips there. He should immediately contribute in mid tho.

fknbuflobo
Fine. Let us play without a left back since no one wants to play it. Presenting the all new 3-3-3 formation!

I'm not saying I'll do much, but I can stand out there and wave to the crowd.
fknbuflobo
Coach Embick said that he expects Derschang will play attacking wing. Robbie Derschang will start at opposite (left) winger to Quinn. Left to right, projected front 3 are good size @ 5'11", 6'0", and 6'0", respectively. fknbuflobo
As long as they can play I don't care about how tall they are Height is not essential in soccer, but it rarely hurts. The uninformed assumption is that larger players are always more physically imposing, better in the air, tougher on the ball. This is certainly not always the case. See Carles Puyol (my idol). However, universal physics will apply, and 6'0" technically competent player usually beats 5’9” technically competent player, other factors being equal. I merely identify that Derschang, Koroma, and Quinn all have pro size. We have yet to see just how good a thing that is, but it definitely is not a bad thing.
