Class of 82 Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 George Thomas' Beacon Journal wrap-up this morning of the Bowden presser noted a visit by former Buchtel wide-out and 100-meter state record holder Nate Harris. (The kid can flat-out fly.) http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/ua-footbal...nessee-1.335677 (at the bottom) I guess things must not have worked out for him somehow at Indiana. Anybody have more info? George? Quote

Class of 82 Posted September 19, 2012 Author Report Posted September 19, 2012 Well, he's not on their official roster, and if he's home in Akron I wonder if he's even enrolled as a student in Bloomington. Not sure how that might effect his eligibility should he come to UA. They were projecting him as a safety, according to his rivals profile. At 6-3, 205 and a 4.49 40, I'd be excited to see him here on either side of the ball. Quote

K92 Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 There was a linebacker that went there that we missed out on, I wonder if he is reconsidering too? Chase Hoobler is a redshirt sophomore now. Too bad he didn't come here, but Ianello probably would have run him off anyhow. I can't for the life of me understand why any Ohio kid would want to go play for those perennial losers. http://www.iuhoosiers.com/sports/m-footbl/...er_chase00.html Quote

State-record 10.63 in the 100 meters. Maybe he just needs a few yards to reach full speed. (EDIT : correction... not a state record, just a state champion. Brandon Saine ran a 10.38) But seriously, 4.49 is just what was on his rivals profile. If he can run under 10.7 in the 100 meters (about 110 yards), he surely can run better than a 4.49 40. Quote

The 40 is a measure of how quick you can start moving more so than a measure of actual speed or acceleration. Chris Johnson of the Titans has a lower 40 time then Usain Bolt, but Bolt would smoke him in any race. Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted September 19, 2012 Report Posted September 19, 2012 While we're at it, let's just bring back ALL the Hoosiers who played HS ball in the area. Next up: Mark Murphy Quote

GeorgeThomasABJ Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 I have no more information other than what my source told me. As for Nate's speed, what I can say is this after watching him run the 100 seven or so times his senior year and watching him play at least five games in the run up to the state championship game: Nate was finisher in track. He reveled in his slow start (he didn't have the best start out of the block his coach said) and then dusting people in the last 50 meters or so. As a receiver you never saw the slow speed. What you did see was the occasional inconsistency. We shall see. He has to get in school and show that he can handle it in the classroom first. Quote
