Is the season over?

No chance for an atlarge bid to the NCAA Tournament.NIT chances have got to be slim with the way the season ended. Akron lost 4 of their last seven games, all but one of which to teams that had no chance of a postseason unless they won the league tournament. You do not lose to Buffalo, Miami, and Toledo and get to go to the postseason when your league is ranked as low as the MAC.This is an example of how the coaching staff failed the team. They did not manage the players in the lineup all season to be able to be fresh at the end. Playing Joyce and Dials 35+ in the blowout wins made no sense then and even less now. This staff did not put the team in a position to win due to a ton of bad personnel moves. If Toledo beats Can't then the Zips are done for the winter.

We all did talk about momentum the past couple of weeks. Losing so much late in the season provided Akron with no momentum going into the MAC tournament. The old saying that teams that play late in the season do well in post season has come true for Akron. Look at Syracuse now......

My two cents...I avoided these boards last night after crumbling in front of my tv after racing home from work to see the end of this game. The Zips curled up into the fetal position for the last 10 minutes. Sure, there could've been better coaching decisions, sure "so-and-so" could've played better defense or better offense, sure toledo "wanted it more." Yeah, I'm as big of Zips fan as anyone out there, and I'm as crushed as all of you. Bottom line: Where would we be right now sans Dambrot? My guess? Middle-of-the road, first round home game hosting 6 or 7 seed. The Zips won 22 games, could win MORE. Say what you want, but Rome wasnt built in a day. These teams will progress, and we will win more championships. But hell, some of you folks act like we're the Atlanta Braves of the MAC and are EXPECTED to win everything. Maybe someday, but not now. When it comes to the NIT, sure it's a 2nd class tourney compared to the NCAAs, but every experience the leaders and even the freshman on this team get helps us for the future. It's a chance to play one or more 2nd tier major conference teams. In the postgame radio show after the quarters Linhart admitted to being nervous and overwhelmed by playing in an NBA arena under that kind of pressure. Would you want to be hearing this next year (when we will have an even stronger team) after a loss in the first round of the NCAAs? No, you want the kids on this team and anyone else that will be back next year to have the experience of playing a post season game, one way or another. Lastly. QUIT GIVING UP! It's hard to imagine the NCAAs NIT selection committee ignoring a 22 win season by the Zips, especially after what happened last year when we were one of the last teams left unselected. The Motor City bowl and the support the Zips Nation has shown will have an effect on this committee, regardless. The bottom line in this thing is money. NIT wants to sell more tickets. Now the world knows that we are hungry for post season and a reason to support these teams. Here's hopin for one more rockin game at the JAR, even if it is that crappy ol' NIT.GO ZIPS!!

We need an NIT bid. From where this program has been, we have climbed a long way in a short time. Another posting out there is titled 'baby steps'. That is what we need to do here. We won a game in Cleveland. Yes, we are talented enough to have won all 3, but it is at least a start. As much as the NIT may be looked down upon as second class, it is a step this program needs to take to re-emerge into the national spot light. The more post-season experience this team can get, the better. In watching and reading how things are coming together for the NCAA, it looks very promising that we may be invited to the NIT. Most teams being projected for the NIT have 17-22 wins, RPI's of 50-100, SOS of 85-185, and from conferences ranked 8-14.Who does that sound a lot like????When you haven't been invited anywhere since 1989, you don't start turning down dates - even if it is for the Junior Prom.
