UAZipster0305
This team is the best defensive team we've ever seen at Akron. Worries me about the playoffs though. Teams will play for penalty kicks against us. We also feature the most balanced attack we have ever had. So, marking and/or shutting down one of our forwards does not prevent us from scoring. Lots of luck to our opponents trying to take us to PK's by playing us to a scoreless tie over 120 minutes of play. This only worked for UVA in the NCAAC, and I still believe they got quite lucky! ZachTheZip
This team is the best defensive team we've ever seen at Akron. We're giving up 0.417 goals per game. I think we've done better in the recent past.

Dig up some stats and also provide the strength of schedule. This year's schedule was stacked with high caliber opponents.

Still fourth in the nation right now. If not for the ND game we'd be first. http://web1.ncaa.org/stats/StatsSrv/rankings
ZachTheZip
I can't find a direct Strength of Schedule ranking. RPI is based very heavily on SOS, though. Goals Against average: 2007 - 0.59, RPI 10 2008 - 0.45, RPI 7 2009 - 0.27, RPI 3 2010 - 0.62, RPI 1 2011 - 0.70 ,RPI 20 I would argue that 2009 was our best defensive team. We did not allow a goal in the entire NCAA tournament, against the best teams in the country. Our schedule included (rank at end of season): #1 Virginia #4 North Carolina #7 Tulsa (twice) #14 Stanford #18 South Florida #19 Ohio State #20 Indiana
Zip_ME87
from niu twitter Akron nearly found the net again in the 5th minute. An initial shot in the crossbar and the rebound was ruled offside. By the way, having been there, that shot looked like it hit the crossbar and bounced down and into the goal. It did not appear to be touched by anyone on a rebound. Should have been scored as a goal.
Zip_ME87
all of these NIU corner kicks are making me super nervous from niu twitter Flick header by Dusty Page, excellent save Meves, 79th minute. Meves probably had 4 or 5 (maybe more) excellent saves in the match.
plowerman78
only have given up 2 goals against the run of play, one was a man down vs Notre Dame the other was the deflected shot that went straight to the Creighton player earlier in the year. All other goals have been on set pieces or pk's. Bring on Michigan and WVU this week. Keep this train rolling
Zip_ME87
By the way, it was great seeing Matt Tutich and his father at the game.
