West Coast Zip
Doesn't Temple play some kind of match-up zone defense? You always hear about teams having trouble that haven't played them, kind of like Syracuse or WVU. Well, the 'revamped' NIT seeding system is all based on numbers - members rank teams individially in a succession of ballots until the seeds are established. Looks like there's no discussion at all in a 'committee' format like the NCAA tourney. I guess what that tells you is nobody had much repect for Akron's 22 wins when it came to ranking them against the other eligible teams. This is the kind of comparison the pundits are always analyzing - a mid major with a very good record, but relative weak schedule, against a major conf. school with a bad record (17-14) but tough opponents all year. I'd love to see Akron come out pissed off and take it to them. Realistically, though, this is a very tough matchup on Temple's home court. Valpo Zip
Please enough complaints everyone, yes we do deserve better but let's face it ! those committees do not respect us (us here being both Akron and the Mac). What can we do about it ? go and earn that respect.you don't earn respect by crying and weening, you go kick some butts in philly and earn that damn respect. I know that temple players are big guys but oh well, if we want to go big and earn respect, we have to beat them, if we want to keep playing Cleveland State and Eastern Michigan then we will never earn the respect we are crying for ! GP1
Look at Temple's roster. No way we compete against that. Thanks for not making me the first to have to say it out loud. The lack of athletic talent will be on full display in Philadelphia this week. Get ready for an ugly one the way this team has played since the Nevada game. How about some more harsh reality. The reason we did not get a home game is that our stadium is so small compared to Temple. We've never even sold more than 4,000 tickets for an early MAC Championship game. Temple could have 4,000 walk ups buy tickets. The NIT needs to fund the tournament so they give games to teams with bigger stadiums and play the percentages. We might lose big because the team is in a funk, but if they can find inspiration to play hard, it should stay reasonably close.
meatwad
You guys are missing the point. It doesnt matter if we DESERVE to have a home game.... it matters that Akron cannot seat as many as Temple can and that means not as much money to be made. (It doesnt help that Zips fans generally dont show up anyway considering we only had 2 sellouts this year). Remember last year, when Akron was the best RPI team to not get an NIT bid? They deserved to be in then too, but not enough money could have been made off of the Zips. Maybe if fans started showing up the NIT would take note in the future. In the meantime get used to not having home games.
GP1
The boys can either take their aggression out on the owls.....or fold and 'wait till next year.' They talked all year about goals and getting monkey's off their back.....winning this game would get a monkey off their back! I agree. The game tomorrow is not as big as the game Friday against Toledo for a lot of reasons, but it is a big game. They need to get in the swing of winning big games. Dr Z
Can the Zips send Chaney home for good?Owls assistant Dan Leibovitz could be running the showI can't believe we lost to Akron by 20.
Dan Kadar
Temple coach John Chaney is set to announce his resignation on the eve of tomorrow's game against Akron.EDIT: Here is an ABC news story about it.EDIT 2: Here is the short AP story. Also, it's Chaney, not Cheney. I am in fact an idiot.
Big Zip
I'll give you that Temple plays in a bigger arena 10,200, but if you remove the Maryland, Duke and Villanova games from their attendance they only averaged 4,324. The Maryland game looks like the only sell out -- I'd be we could sell out the "Q" if we played Duke -- they played Duke at Wachovia Center. My guess is this game gets somewhere near the season average excluding those three -- Akron would have sold this game out.
