liljc
A little help, please. I think a grey shirt pays for his first year with the promise of a scholarship in the second year. So, what is a preferred walk on? What is the difference between a walk on and a preferred walk on? Does a preferred walk on come to campus with any promises? Dr Z
what is a preferred walk on? What is the difference between a walk on and a preferred walk on?Preferred walk on In some instances, a college coach/recruiter may designate an athlete as a "preferred walk-on" during the scouting process. In this situation, the athlete is assured a spot on the team, but the coach is unable or unwilling to offer a scholarship. BTW, this is from the first site that pops up when you type "preferred walk on football" in google. Here is the first site that pops up when you type "grey shirt football" in google. Grey-shirting: A player that commits to a team and then pays his own way through school for a semester to preserve his eligibility.
Foezono
Greyshirt is a player that commits and enrolls in January the following year instead of August on a full scholarship. He can take classes anywhere he wants on a part time basis only, until he enrolls in January. This gives him a jump on almost all incoming freshman, because he can play spring football and he still can be red shirted.
jetabug
A greyshit athelete is saved a spot on the team but does not truely enroll school untill the second or spring semester of his freshman year. Alot of time this is used when they need to go to community college or somewhere else to get grades up first. They can not practice or participate in any team functions untill enrolled in the spring, such as spring practice.
