skip-zip Posted November 21, 2012 Report Posted November 21, 2012 With as much respect as possible, I have to ask how someone "predicts" a soccer game? Most games, particularly at this time of the year, are probably going to boil down to one brief lapse by somebody that causes a goal to be scored. Whoever has that brief lapse is probably going to lose. Quote

Wally B Posted November 21, 2012 Report Posted November 21, 2012 I dunno, look at time of possesion? Average shots on goal? Other statisitical evidence that suggests a greater chance of scoring more goals than the other team? It may have been a 1 goal win against Mich, but those stats suggest we had a better chance at winning the game. Quote
TennZip Posted November 22, 2012 Author Report Posted November 22, 2012 soccer can be a cruel game.... but it is not random...or only determined by lapses time of possession, precision passing, more corner kicks, excellent defensive players, more shots on goals, mid fielders that see the entire field and make fine passes, far side backs with speed that make good passes into the box, forwards that can clear space for their own shots, a goalie that is having a good year, a coach with a solid and dependable game plan....all factor into predictions... you can see that the zips....do well in all those categories JR Eskilson correctly predicted that the zips would beat Michigan and Louisville in 2010 final four... He has already predicted Zips in the final four Quote

He has already predicted Zips in the final four Well said. And it's a simple way to look at Akron's success during Porter's tenure. We get WAY more chances than other teams and we hold them to very few. We win a lot because of it. Lapses occur here and there, but a team that's under more pressure than us is going to make a lot more lapses too. Quote

He has already predicted Zips in the final four +1 Soccer is a very deliberate sport. Certainly Chance is a factor, as in any undertaking. There exist both strategic and tactical behaviors that render verifiable, repeatable success. Zips excel in all these categories, as listed above. Quote
