I know the opponent wasn't too tough but the reality is that Zeke doesn't usually have great games against weaker opponents. He always seemed to play to his opponent's level. I remember how he dominated the next best center in the MAC (Justin Green) few times and how he also dominated the, now in the NBA, Arnett Moultrie from Miss. State... yet he would follow that with very pedestrian games against the average centers of the MAC. In the last few games, I have witnessed a more involved Zeke who is not only calling for the ball, but also getting it and doing good things with it. He is also rebounding better and still blocking shots without fouling. Last time I saw the "I don't wanna be here" Zeke was in Detroit. Posted December 28, 2012 Report Share Posted December 28, 2012 I have long (3 years?) seen the similarities between the games of Zeke and the Milwaukee Buck's emerging center from VCU, Larry Sanders (Fernwood 2 Night, anyone?). Like Sanders, Zeke still has much room -- and time, for improvement. But I'd love to see him build his game up to the level Sanders did to make himself a lottery pick. I think Sanders left after his junior year, and is a couple inches shorter -- but his length and defensive/shot blocking ability was very much like Marshall. I really hope that KD is coming to the realization that having Alex, Walsh, Gilliam, Kretzer, etc. chucking up 30+ 3's a game is not the way this team is going to win ball games. This teams strength is in the post with Zeke, Tree, Harney and Pat F., followed by timely perimeter shooting from our guards and wings. Get the ball to Zeke and the rest of the bigs early and often. Dave in Green Posted December 28, 2012 Report Share Posted December 28, 2012 @Z.I.P., in only his third season in the NBA, Larry Sanders is currently #1 in blocks per minute. In blocks per game, Sanders' 3.0 BPG is second only to Serge Ibaka's 3.07, with Sanders averaging 24 minutes per game to Ibaka's 32. Sanders is also averaging 7.9 points and 8.5 rebounds per game for the Bucks. If Zeke can replicate that, he will have a big NBA paycheck in his future. Interestingly enough, when you compare Sanders' stats from his final season at VCU with Zeke's current season, they are pretty similar in per-game averages with the exception that Sanders averaged significantly more rebounds per game and Zeke is averaging significantly more blocks per game. We seem to have our best outside shooting nights in the games where we feed the ball inside. I think we took the shooting for granted at some point, thinking that it wasn't created through a strong inside-out game. When that happened, we played poor basketball. Zeke has looked like a different player (or more like the Zeke we know he can be) since the Detroit game. Hopefully, the light has come on and he will consistently play up to his capabilities. I also think that it helps that he has another star in the making in Pat Forsythe challenging him every day. Having Pat here is going to be the best thing for Zeke's development, and having Zeke here is the best thing for Pat's development. You get both of them playing at a high level, along with Treadwell emerging as a potential force in the MAC, and this frontcourt is as good as it gets in college basketball. Now with the suspensions out of the way and the team getting into a regular schedule, it's going to be fun to see what this team does from here on out.
