Big Zip
Pretty interesting article from Dan Le Batard on Jason Taylor and what he went through to suit up on Sundays. I think these guys are crazy for some of the stuff they do to stay on the field on Sundays and this article paints the picture pretty vividly (I hurt just reading the article). This guys are definitely gladiators and I appreciate that Jason realizes this was his decision to go through what he went through to play. I think it says a lot about the state of football as we all rush to judgement regarding concussions and body damage undergone by players at all levels. I have to believe many if not all of the players feel like Jason....they knew the consequences and realized the damage it was doing to their body. There are many hypocrites among former NFLers who claim they didn't realize the damage they were doing to their bodies. It feels to me like a smoker who didn't realize inhaling smoke into their lungs was going to damage them...I have a hard time believing it. http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/01/13/v-fu...ylors-pain.html
Wally B
Thanks for posting this BZ, yu beat me to it! Given what we knew about about footballs past, I'm not surprised by any of this. The average fan doesn't want to know what goes on behind the scenes, especially to those elite players like Taylor. Then again, in last weeks Kosar article I was amazed that he carried smelling salts in his pants !! In the end, with everything that's coming out in this new age of information, I think it will be interesting to see what ultimately happens to players like James Harrison who have obviously sacraficed their bodies over their carrers! Like it or not, this isn't going away......
Dave in Green
If you made it legal and put up enough money, there are people out there who would go on live TV and duel with real guns and live ammunition, knowing they might be shot but believing they'd win and walk away with a lot of money. Dr Z
Wow. The trainer rushed to Taylor’s house. Taylor thought he was overreacting. The trainer told him they were immediately going to the hospital. A test kit came out. Taylor’s blood pressure was so high that the doctors thought the test kit was faulty. Another test. Same crazy numbers. Doctors demanded immediate surgery. Taylor said absolutely not, that he wanted to call his wife and his agent and the famed Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion. Andrews also recommended surgery, and fast. Taylor said, fine, he’d fly out in owner Daniel Snyder’s private jet in the morning. Andrews said that was fine but that he’d have to cut off Taylor’s leg upon arrival. Taylor thought he was joking. Andrews wasn’t. Compartment syndrome. Muscle bleeds into the cavity, causing nerve damage. Two more hours, and Taylor would have had one fewer leg.
LZIp
Liked Taylor as a football player, but would like to see show more support for UA, whether it be on camera or on social media. He is too busy pimping out "The U".
BirdZip
I think the Moderators need to start a series called "Zips Fans: Sitting Through the Pain--Crazy, Stupid, Other or all of the above." Substitute "Drinking" or any of a dozen other words. Chronicle the diehard Zips fans' journey through the last 3+ years of yearning for mediocrity.
