Zip Watcher
Is anyone else suprised by the fact that neither of the two new assistant coach hires has any significant D1 coaching experience? I have to admit being a bit reserved about the hire of a DIII and DII guy to round this staff. I was thinking Yeater would get bumped to the 3 spot, Smart would stay at the 2, and an experienced D1 assistant would be brought on as the top assistant. Thoughts? Charles_in_Charge
I agree. This staff looks like one for a D-II school more than a Div. I program in a top notch conference. The most striking thing to me is that these are all Ohio based coaches and all but Dambrot have ONLY coaches in Ohio. No coach of the group has extensive recruiting ties anywhere else. Not a very good start.
RatFink
What do we have here? Twiddly-dee and Twiddly-dum? Two twits with zero basketball knowledge trash mouth talking about the caliber of coaches they have never met. Nor ever studied their performance history. With these two brain trusts on the review board, Jim Tressel would still be at Youngstown State. Coach Dambrot is a top shelf coach that wizened Zips fans have lusted after for years. I mean years. Years long before he came on board the Akron staff. Coach Dambrot knows what he wants. What's more, he knows how to get there. Who he selects as assistants is part of his general plan of action. He did not choose from the rotted fish barrel. These two happy campers would have nixed the hiring of Bob Huggins to both Akron and Cincinnati. So much for brain farts. Captain Kangaroo
What do we have here? Twiddly-dee and Twiddly-dum? Two twits with zero basketball knowledge trash mouth talking about the caliber of coaches they have never met. Nor ever studied their performance history. To call Zip Watcher a "twit with Zero Basketball knowledge" is a pretty weak, uninformed statement. His question was legit, and fairly stated. Personally, I trust Dambrot. If some of these assistants can teach a 12 foot jumper and decent free throw shooting, I don't care if they're from Hammel Actual College. The local ties don't bug me. Most of our roster is from Ohio anyhow, and if we keep the local HS talent "home" we can do pretty well in the MAC. Dambrot garnered the #15 recruiting class in the nation while at CMU, so I'm sure he's got good contacts regionally and nationally too. Zip Watcher
Rat, you're reading way too much into a simple question. There's been no trash talking here. I'm 100% behind KD. To my knowledge, I was the only one anywhere near this board that bothered to check out the press conference when he was hired in person, so don't ever question my loyalty or trust in what's happening at the JAR. I'm on board, have been for a long time & will continue to be well into the future. I merely point out that I didn't anticipate the youth of this staff. I was expecting the delay in the last hire to mean an experienced D1 guy would come on with KD. Didn't happen. I wondered what others thought. No judgments .. don't infer what's not there. As for Jim Tressel at YSU .. who gives a Rat's a$$ about YSU and Columbus Felon football anyway??! I certainly don't, and I don't think too many people around these parts do either .. thanks anyway for that completely irrelevant analogy. GoZips
Food Fight ... !!! Boy, oh boy, finally a little heat on the boards. These boards were getting pretty mushy stale for weeks. Its about time there be some signs of life. Cap'n, I hope you are right on the mark. I can't judge any of the folks knowledge level. I do know that I was at Coach Dambrot's introduction press conference AND I reported on his speach at the Hall of Fame luncheon. Where I "scooped" every one on the desertion of Allan Hanson. Zip Watcher seems to be a solid Zips supporter. Charles In Charge comes across as your basic flamer. Ratfink seems to be a Zips supporter with a cutting and often caustic view of things. Any way, happy that there is a sign of life on the boards.
