zipfan 81 Posted April 7, 2006 Report Posted April 7, 2006 Is that true? I have heard Dru Joyce Sr. is replacing Smart? It was on another basketball website as a possibility.... Quote
zipsbandman Posted April 7, 2006 Report Posted April 7, 2006 hmmmm, very very interesting, and I must say I would welcome that particularly for recruiting. I assume that Joyce has lots of connections in the local basketball scene. Quote

He's already as good as it gets. Quote
zip37 Posted April 7, 2006 Report Posted April 7, 2006 Sounds logical to me-- Shaka, in addition to being an absolute first rate basketball mind and recruiter, he had a really great personality. I've never met DJII, but I understand he has the same qualities as Shaka.WBALAL :macc: Quote
sgm405 Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 I really hope this is a false rumor...never thought that highly of Joyce Quote
GoZips Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 Dru Joyce II would be a fine addition to the Akron staff. He is a first class gentle man.His basketball skills have grown exponentially ever since he first volunteered for coachDambrot.I know the man personally. I vouch for him that he is of high caliber. He loves the kidsand the game. Admittedly, he is no Shaka Smart. Still, he is worthy of the consideration. Its unlikely that coach Joyce would join the Akron staff for financial reasons. Coach Joyceworks part time at St.V-St.M as the boy's basketball coach. He is gainfully employed ata job that current pays him substantially more than a low level assistant job would pay atthe university. Financially he would take a huge hit. Quote
Sloopy Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 Hiring Joyce gives Akron nothing in terms of nation recruiting ties. Dambrot's staff needs someone who has basketball roots outside of Ohio. Every assistant on the staff is from Ohio, which is a pretty narrow focus n recruiting. It would also be nice to see someone with significant D-1 experience since the staff is also made up of guys with Division II and Division III backgrounds. Quote
Buckzip Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 Maybe we can hire Shaka Khan, Shaka Khan Quote
