Guest Guest_Z.I.P.
Since Dials made it official (last week?) that he won't be back on O'Brien's bench next year, all the speculation from board traffic (e.g., JJ Huddle) is that Akron has the inside track. Doesn't seem much question to me that he could help the team tremendously -- potentially at least. And we'll certainly have a scholarship in 05-06 when he would become eligible. Question is, would he have to take up a scholarship position for 04-05? I'm pretty sure he would. Now, do we have one to give? Answer, I think, is yes -- thanks to the recent rule change. So, what do folks think about KD's next move. What possible other schools might be in the run - BeeGee? This is a 2000 pt 500 reb HS performer. Played 20 mins/game and scored 6.0 pts/gm for the Sockeyes. Those don't come around every day. It seems the backcourt and the '2' specifically is the most dire need for the near future. Just wondered what others are thinking about this situation.
Guest Zips 4ever
I trust that KD is a great recruiter and will be able to bring in the talent he needs. I don't know Dials-why is he leaving the suckeyes? Is this kid trouble? Did he just need a change? Did he realize that Columbus State Junior College was not for him? KD will have do some research first. He has the ability to bring in top talent-I wouldn't use a scholarship on the kid until I had some concrete answers about why he is moving. Captain Kangaroo
Dials was a walk-on. My take is he feels he deserves a scholarship, and O'Brien isn't willing to part with one. I would think he'd be an asset to the Zips.

I hope that not the same UA official that told me in 2001: "We'll win 10 more games with Derrick Tarver than without him" (at the time there was some doubt if Tarver would play because of the possible heart problems). Then again...who knows...maybe we would have only won 4 or 5 games total in 2002 and 2003?
Guest Guest_Z.I.P.
Cap'n, I assume the Akron official in question was neither a Nostradamus, nor the head men's basketball coach. That given, we can all assume he meant to say "We SHOULD win ten more games with Derrick Tarver than without him." I still honestly believe DT was that good a player. Had the team had the mentorship and, oh, OK, let's be frank, coaching ability it needed, Akron would have easily won twenty+ games and Derrick would have been MAC POY at least once. But you know they say about "reasonable men and kangaroos can disagree".

Guest Guest_Z.I.P.
Mahalo my Captain. That trip to O-land provided some valuable insight into the mind of the spoiled rich kids in the state capitol. The buggers get five times what MAC schools have to perform intercollegiate sports, yet they still want to shove women's sports into the background, so Tosu football and male basketball can have yet more $$$. Unbelievable! And, back at the ranch, here's hoping two things: 1. UA gets Nick Dials. 2. KD gets Col'bus State on his schedule in the next three years -- be it before or after the departure of coach O'Brien. I suspect one more year like last will be all those poor blokes can stand of that particular final-four coach. Shed no tears for Suckeyes.
