Timbers vs Crew

Recommended Posts

I don't know how many Zips' faithful are planning to attend the Timbers vs Crew match in Columbus on July 7th, but I noticed that the Timbers Army is selling group tickets online. This seems to be open to anyone who wants to sit with the TA and support the Timbers and the price seems reasonable at $16.75/ticket.

AK_Rowdies/Zips Fans + Timbers Army could be a lot of fun if you're a Timbers fan. (I'm certain Coach Porter, Darlington Nagbe, and Ben Zemanski would love seeing Zips fans among the Timbers Army.)

Please note the following on the linked website:

These tickets are open to all Timbers fans traveling to the games, and you can purchase as many as you need.

Note: Our away supporter sections are treated as general admission areas even though there may be seat numbers on your tickets. Because standing, singing, chanting and flag waving are to be expected in a supporters section, your view may be blocked at times.

If you have any questions about any of our trips/tickets please email awaytravel@timbersarmy.org.

EDIT: Of course, I should admit that this is a tough decision as I'm a huge fan of Wil Trapp and Chad Barson as well.

..."I'm sure there'll be more people there," Porter said. "Get some of the Akron 'AK Rowdies' coming down and hopefully partnering with the Timbers Army. You never know." ...

I didn't know until today if I would be able to go to the match on sunday. I am heading down with a few other rowdies and we're meeting up with ZIP_ME87 in Columbus. Hopefully the match won't be sold out and I can still get a ticket when I get there...Hope to see a few of you down there! I'll be there with my national championship t-shirt on along with my scarf!

Don't think it will sell out, but GO CREW! :D

All I can say is, if the Crew put on the same uninspired performance they showed in L.A. a couple days ago, Caleb's squad should roll! Man -- that was torturous to watch; two offensively incompetent teams balied out momentarily by poor defense. Without Keane, the Galaxy would be in the same department as Toronto FC.

Looking forward to the run down from attendees of the Crew's incredible 1-0 victory -- ending the Timber's (I believe) 15-game unbeaten streak. I only noticed in the box score that a Portland player I am unfamiliar with got a straight red in about the tenth minute, then Caleb brought on an extra defender.

What I forgot to mention about the Columbus @ LA Galaxy game is that both Chad Barson and Ben Speas started and I think played 90'. Hard to tell though as the L.A. broadcast misses subs. I noted that Will Trapp started today for the Crew, while Ben Zemanski played for Portland, and Nannchoff came on in relief. Nice.

Yep, Trapp was the "Man of the Match". MLS debut, and looked what happened. Columbus has no excuse to start him from this point on. Hopefully Vancouver's manager can wake up too and start Darren.

Back to the match though. Standing with the Timber's Army was amazing. Some of their chants, we're brilliant. It was fun for my first MLS game. Can't wait to go back, especially if Columbus keeps deciding on starting Trapp more...

Great turn out of Akron fans. Kudos to all who attended.

Great little tailgate with 4 friends prior to the match. Enjoyed talking with some of the Timbers fans who wandered by, and happy to see some of my friends get copies of the Timbers Army chants for the match.

Went in as soon as the gates opened. Talked with Wil and Chad as soon as they came out of the tunnel for warm ups. I can't thank Wil and Chad enough for taking the time. Chad's parents then came down to say "hi" and we proceeded to catch Pablo Moreira (who is now a video analyst for the Timbers), Michael Nanchoff, and Darlington when they came out.

Great to be there for Wil Trapp's debut. A group of his high school friends were sitting behind me. I chimed in with the "Wil Trapp fan club" when he was announced and throughout the match. In the first half, Wil and Darlington were battling a number of times on my side of the field. Wish I'd have been able to get some good pictures, but it doesn't really matter...I was there.

So much fun to eventually see 5 former Zips on the field together and Caleb Porter coaching from the visitors bench. It was fun to see Darlington, Ben, and eventually Michael Nanchoff go up against Wil and Chad. What an awesome day in Columbus. When the match was over, Caleb came over to say hi to someone else he knew in the stands a few feet away from me. He noticed me and shook my hand. I really wish I could get to Portland to see a Timbers match at Jeld-Wen. Down a man and the Timbers held their own on the road. I was torn between the 2 sides, kind of hoping for a tie, but happy for Chad and Wil in the end.

I also caught up with a number of Rowdies after the game, talked with Wil Trapp's parents, and a number of other Akron alumni.

This was a special game which I was really happy to attend. I hope the Crew keep starting Wil and Chad...I'll keep going.
